Race 1 ALBION TAVERN DASH - C0 - 297 HUKA JAZZ moved out soon after the start and checked SUPREME PARAGON who dropped back to last and stayed there. NITE HAWK LADY and HUKA JAZZ both ran very wide on the bend and covered extra ground. NITE HAWK LADY ran on for 2nd placing but HUKA JAZZ finished near the rear.
Race 2 OXFORD HOTEL STAKES - C0 - 505 GOTTA BOLD BOY was a late scratching when found to be overweight by 1.6 kilograms. The Trainer was fined $100-00 under Rule 269 (3). HOMEBUSH KERRY was slow to begin and then ran onto the heels of RONGOTEA REBEL on the first corner and lost further ground. She then made up some ground without looking likely to finish in the money. GOTTA BOLD BOY. Trainer N.Cobain-Sutton. Rule 269 (3) Overweight and a late scratching without penalty on the dog. Trainer fined $ 100-00 under Rule 269 (3).
Race 3 COMMITTEE STAKES - C1 - 505 UPAHUT AXION was scratched Ex Wellington on the 15.10.03. JO JO SAM, GONE TROPPO, KOJAZZ and LAST TRAM all ran very wide on the first bend and covered considerable extra ground. GONE TROPPO was checked entering the back straight, went back to last and finished in that position. One of the favourites TOKEN ANSWER ran very wide for the last half of the race and finished well back. UPAHUT AXION. Trainer D.Meates. Ex Wellington on 15.10.03.
Race 4 CLARENDON HOTEL - C1 - 505 SOFA LOAFER ran out on the first turn and pushed LIKA CRUISE very wide. Entering the back straight, SHAVE THE SHEEP stepped over the heels of RAVEN HAWK, moved out and bumped LIKA CRUISE who dropped out to finish several lengths last. He was examined by the vet and stood down for 14 days with a gracilus muscle injury. LIKA CRUISE Trainer T.McGillivray. Rule 329. Suffered a gracilus muscle injury and stood down for 14 days to 30.10.03.
Race 5 STEVE McGILL VET STAKES - C1 - 297 TURBO JAZZ was scratched Ex Wellington on 15.10.03. ENROLLMENT and GAZZA'S DELIGHT were both slow to begin. MISS RUMMO and CHEROKEE SQUAW came together and were checked on the first corner, dropped back to the rear and stayed there. TURBO JAZZ. Trainer R&L Bell . Ex Wellington on 15.10.03.
Race 6 AWAPUNI LIQUORLAND - C1/2 - 505 MR MANGERTON ran very wide on the first bend and soon after, STAR COMPANY ran onto the heels of MINNESOTA GEM, moved out and checked WON'T BE DENIED and MR MANGERTON. and all three lost several lengths and any chance of a placing.
Race 7 ALEX McKAY STAKES - C1/2 - 505 LIFE'S LUCK was a late scratching when found to be in season and she will spell for thirty days. BROWNING BALE, WHIPPER SNAPPER and BLIND AS were slow to begin and then the favourite BROWNING BALE ran very wide on the first bend, dropped out to finish several lengths last. He was examined by the vet and cleared of any injury. LIFE'S LUCK. Trainer P.Blanche. Late scratching. Rule 258 (3). In season and stood down for thirty days to 16.11.03.
Race 8 BRYCE FRANCIS GRAPHICS - C3/4 - 297 The favourite PACIFIC JAZZY was a little slow to begin and was then forced to race wide from box 8. She finished fifth but not far from the placegetters. EBONY CRYSTAL, DARCY'S DRAWER and WAIWERA ISHBEL raced tightly in the run to the first corner, jostled together and dropped out to the rear and stayed back.
Race 9 ALEX McKAY SPRINT - C2 - 297 INSIST was scratched Ex Wellington on 15.10.03. INSIST. Trainer J.Hill. Ex Wellington on 15.10.03.
Race 10 APPLEJACK BOY MEMORIAL - C2f - 505 One of the favourites GAZZA'S BEAUTY was shunted wide on the first bend and forced to race over extra ground. The Judges initial call of the placings was incorrect but the mistake was noticed and corrected before any payment of dividends was made.
Race 11 WANGANUI CAR CENTRE - C3/4 - 505 BANTAM ROOSTER jumped well and led around the first bend but then drifted out and had to check when almost making contact with the outside fence. BANTAM ROOSTER then dropped out quickly to the rear and finished last. The vets inspection cleared the dog of any injuries.
Race 12 AWAPUNI HURDLES - C1h - 505 The inside panels on the first two hurdles were knocked down on the first circuit and some of the runners ran through without having to jump them on the final circuit. PROPER FLAME had run out at the second hurdle, crowding outside runners and knocking the panel down. EMERALD FOREST was checked on the first corner and fell on the flat but was not injured.
