Judicial report: Weather: Overcast but warm Trainer RA Adcock was charged under Rules: 262 and 135(1) after presenting dog SPECIAL HAND for kennelling 17 minutes after the required time. He was fined $25.00.
An inquiry into the scratching of SPEEDWELL BALE at the boxes immediately prior to race start for Race 14 was opened and adjourned pending further enquiries.

Race 1 PEDIGREE ADVANCE SPRINT - C0 - 295 The short priced favourite WHIPWHOP PATCH was slow to jump from Box 1, settling last, however improved along the rail around the bend finishing on for third. Into the first corner TAR SEAL struck the hindquarters of GWINGANA TOKEN losing momentum, there after running wide around the bend into the home straight. Soon after this incident SAMMY HAVOC and MULBERRY ACE were checked as a result of tightening by dogs on their outer. Into the home straight GWINGANA TOKEN ran outwards, colliding with VILLAGE QUEEN on her outer, both dogs losing momentum. These two dogs, along with TAR SEAL and MULBERRY ACE finished at the rear of the field. GWINGANA TOKEN was examined by the Club Veterinarian following the event and found to have a left hind foot laceration, recommending a stand down period of 7 days. Race 2 WINNING EDGE STAKES - C1 - 520 Around the first corner WEE VENETIA checked out off the hindquarters of INDICATIVE, when racing at the rear of the field. Neither dog improved in the running, filling the last two places. Short priced favourite BANKSIDE BRAT jumped quickly to the lead from the boxes, running away to win the event easily.
Race 3 SUPERPETS SPRINT - C0 - 295 GRACIOUS EXIT and WHATA TEX were slow to jump from the boxes, settling at the rear of the field. GRACIOUS EXIT never improved during the running, however WHATA TEX finished strongly in the straight for third. NATIVE FERN (GA Cleeve) in season. Rule: 258. 30 days up to and including 10 November 2003.
Race 4 BARRON'S SUPPLIES STAKES - C0 - 520 All clear.
Race 5 SCHULTZ PANEL & PAINT STAKES - C1 - 520 Into the first corner BAGHDAD TOKEN ran outwards colliding with NEAVIS ALONE on his outer, who fell as a result of the impact. She was checked following the event by the Club Veterinarian who found NEAVIS ALONE to have sustained a fractured right knee joint and ligaments, euthanasing the dog on humane grounds. FIFI THE FLEA (AH Lee) right shoulder sprain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied . Rule: 259. 10 days up to and including 21 October 2003. WINSOME BOTHER (C Mitchell) left hind toe sprain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 14 days up to and including 25 October 2003. AQUA VAN (JR Goode) kennel cough. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 10 days up to and including 22 October 2003. NEAVIS ALONE (MJ Hill) deceased.
Race 6 CANTERBURY OTB ASSOC SPRINT - C1 - 295 Into the first corner TIPPED TOP was checked when tightened between dogs, settling last. Soon after this incident JET JUNCTION, HOMEBUSH ROSE and DUSTY DROVER came together, losing momentum. I'VE GOT FLAIR who ranged up outside the leaders, came in contact with HOMEBUSH BRIAN, sustaining a severe check. When endeavouring to improve into the home straight she was tightened between JET JUNCTION, HOMEBUSH ROSE, DUSTY DROVER and TIPPED TOP, all five dogs losing all chance and finishing some distance behind the place getters.
Race 7 SHIRLEY VETERINARY CLINIC STAKES - C1 - 520 HUGH DAGG came up with the lids missing the jump by approximately four lengths. Into the first corner he caught the body of the field, running wide. He ran on over the concluding stages to finish fourth. Into the back straight KELBRETT JEMMA and ROSE CEE CEE who were trailing the leader and eventual winner OZZY JOHN, came together with ROSE CEE CEE sustaining a severe check coming back on the favourite SUPERSTITIOUS. SUPERSTITIOUS ran on over the concluding stages for third, with ROSE CEE CEE finishing a distant last. She was checked by the Club Veterinarian who found her to have sustained a fractured right knee joint resulting in her euthanasia on humane grounds. BEDAZZLED JEWEL (AC Roberts) left wrist sprain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 14 days up to and including 25 October 2003. ROSE CEE CEE (GA Cleeve) deceased.
Race 8 RAPID VITE STAKES - C0 - 520 MARIO SCENARIO was slow to jump from the outside box, settling last. Into the first corner NORTHERN PEARL who was in the trail, was tightened by dogs on her outer, checking outwards as a result and striking the hindquarters of HONEY'S MEMORY and running wide, settling last ,never improving during the running. Soon after this incident TOP BRASS and HOMEBUSH SALLY who were vying for the lead came together, HOMEBUSH SALLY being forced outwards into the path of HONEY'S MEMORY, who in turn was struck by the favourite MELANTHA BALE. HONEY'S MEMORY ran on over the concluding stages for third, with MELANTHA BALE fifth. CHOSEN FELLA (JV Busch) right hock sprain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 14 days up to and including 26 October 2003.
Race 9 JEWEL RACING KENNELS SPRINT - C1 - 295 MR MAGNOLIA and MULBERRY ROLL were slow to jump from the boxes, settling well back. Soon after the jump OUR AFFAIR was squeezed, losing momentum. Into the first corner MR MAGNOLIA ran wide forcing the favourite EJAY'S LANDING wide. These two dogs and OUR AFFAIR never recovered, filling the last three places. MULBERRY ROLL who was second to last into the first corner, finished strongly in the straight for fourth, indicating a win next start .
Race 10 ROCKCOTE STAKES - C1 - 520 BLUE FERN was slow to jump from the boxes, settling last. Into the first corner CALL ME NELSON ran outwards, forcing CURLY BLYTH into the path of TURBO ROYAL, both dogs being checked as was an improving BLUE FERN. CALL ME NELSON ran on for fourth with the other dogs filling the last three places.
Race 11 GEORGE CALVERT CLEANING SPRINT - C1 - 295 UP A NOTCH was slow to jump from the boxes, settling last. Into the first corner CHAINSAW CHOPPA was tightened by HOMEBUSH GEORGE, losing momentum. Soon after this incident DICTATION was tightened between dogs losing ground, before HOMEBUSH GEORGE moved outwards on the point of the corner, running wide and taking SCENIC DELIGHT with him. SCENIC DELIGHT, CHAINSAW CHOPPA, DICTATION and UP A NOTCH never recovered from these incidents, finishing at the tail of the field. HOMEBUSH GEORGE ran on well in the home straight to finish a nose behind the third place getter BLONDE FEVER. TOKEN TALK (T.Freeman) stood down Christchurch GRC meeting on 9 October 2003. Rule: 329. 10 days up to and including 18 October 2003.
Race 12 ACTIVE ELECTRICAL STAKES - C1 - 520 Into the first corner the favourite LUMOS OBLIVIATE endeavoured to improve along the rail, striking the hindquarters of WINSOME FEVER, losing momentum and coming back on a trailing RIKER and EBONY DELUXE, whose chances were extinguished. These two dogs finished at the rear of the field, with LUMOS OBLIVIATE finishing strongly along the rail in the home straight for second.
Race 13 PRECISION PHOTO FINISH STAKES - C0 - 520 Into the home straight when finishing down the outer MAKE ME WILD fought with MOANA NUI on his inner before passing that dog and running inwards, checking BLANCHED and coming in contact with the eventual winner ASHCROFT BALE. A charge under Rule: 322 (1) (a) was preferred against MAKE ME WILD and Trainers J & D Fahey. Trainer David Fahey elected to plead guilty to the charge with MAKE ME WILD stood down for a period of one month at all tracks under Rule: 322 (2) (a), and to undertake a satisfactory trial in accordence with Rule: 241. ICE FERN (GA Cleeve) in season. Rule 258. 30 days up to and including 10 November 2003. MAKE ME WILD (J&D Fahey) Rule: 322 (1)(a). One month up to and including 13 November 2003 and to undertake a satisfactory trial in accordance with Rule: 241.
Race 14 TWIGGERS CABARET STAKES - C1 - 520 SPEEDWELL BALE was a late scratching when checked by the Club Veterinarian at the race start, who found him to have cramped up in his right foreleg. He recommended a stand down of 7 days. SUPER GOLD (AC Roberts) stood down at Christchurch GRC on 9 October 2003. Rule: 259. 7 days up to and including 15 October 2003. SPEEDWELL BALE (RS Parker) was a late scratching at the boxes when found lame in his right fore. Veterinary certicate supplied. Rule: 259. 7 days up to and including 20 October 2003.
Race 15 ADDINGTON RACEWAY STAKES - C2 - 520 AQUA GOOFY was squeezed soon after jumping from the boxes settling last. Into the first corner AQUA HOBO ran outwards, coming in contact with YALLAH GEM, resulting in a check to SATIN GRIP and an improving AQUA GOOFY. These dogs settled at the rear of the field, never improving during the running.
Race 16 FLAIR SPRINT - C2 - 295 Into the first corner OZARK'S GUMBOOT was tightened between dogs when vying for the lead, coming back on a trailing WALTON BALE, both dogs losing all chance as a result. Around the bend YOUNG TEZZA checked outwards off the hindquarters of an improving WALTON BALE, faltering shortly afterwards. He was checked by the Club Veterinarian following the event and found to have a fractured right hock, resulting in his euthanasia on humane grounds. Just past the winning post LIGHT FROST fell. He was checked by the Club Veterinarian who detected no injuries. YOUNG TEZZA (BR Healey) deceased.
