Judicial report: Weather: Fine After the running of Race 4 a charge under Rule 322 (1)(b) was preferred against the greyhound Wear the Fern (G.A.Cleeve) after the dog turned its head into the straight and failed to run out the race. The handler entered a not guilty plea to the charge which, after a hearing, the Judicial Steward found proven and the dog was stood down for 30 days up to and including 11/10/2003.

Race 1 | POWERHIRE SPRINT - C1 - 310 | Favourite Gilbert Bale (3) missed the jump by several lengths, made ground and flew home in the straight for 3rd. Ultravox (2) led all the way and held on to win by 2 and a quarter lengths from Kev The Alien (6) which was second throughout. Mitcham Bale (1) was humanely euthanased after the race when the dog was squeezed up in the run to the bend, hit the rail and broke the left hind leg. |
Race 2 | ST KILDA VET DASH - C0 - 310 | Homebush Rose (8) led all the way and held on to win by a half length from Homebush Jet (2). Mulberry Roll (7) was slow early and made ground for 3rd. In the run to the turn Homebush Brian (4) was pushed out the back, crossed to the rail, hit the rail and bounced off. After the race the vet examined the dog and no injury was sustained. Homebush Elle (1) and Sydney's Legend (6) collided at the rear as Homebush Elle moved outwards, with both dogs tailing off at the rear. |
Race 3 | T.L.MACLEAN LTD DASH - C1 - 310 | Thelma Bale (6) led all the way to win from Orator (5) which was second throughout. Favourite High Fever (8) was slow to jump and only battled for 4th. |
Race 4 | PUMPERNICKLES MAIDEN - C0 - 545 | Favourite Milanion (8) led throughout and held on to win by a head from Wear the Fern (3) with favourite Chosen Fella (1) running on strongly at the end for 3rd. Followint the race Wear The Fern was stood down for 30 days under Rule 322 (1) (b) for failing to pursue the lure. Wave The Fern (G.A.Cleeve), Rule 322 (1) (b) 30 days up to and including 11/10/2003. |
Race 5 | HARVESTING EQUIPMENT STAKES - C1 - 545 | On the first pass of the lure the traps failed to open. The dogs were removed from the traps, reloaded, and the race restarted without incident. The lids had failed to open after power to the atuomatic trip was not connected. Torah Bale (5) led all the way to win from the favourite Into The Blue (1) which chased the leader throughout. |
Race 6 | GILL & RAIMA BLUE MAIDEN - C0 - 545 | Ebony Deluxe (6) was out well, took the lead into the back straight and held on to win by a half length from win favourite Neavis Alone (7) which led into the back straight. |
Race 7 | JOHN & CAROLLYN MILLS STAKES - C1 - 545 | Favourite Token Ego (2) led all the way and bolted in by 6 and a half lengths from Indicative (8) which ran on from midfield. Wee Venetia (L.Congahan), Rule 259 laceration to front paw, 10 days up to and including 21/9/2003. Vet certificate supplied. |
Race 8 | NORTH TAIERI TAVERN STAKES - C1 - 545 | Mulberry Euchre (1) led into the back straight, was headed on the final turn, rallied in the run home and won by 1 and a half lengths from Cambodia Girl (2) which was handy, took the lead on the final turn, and fought on well. Blue Fern (6) was well back early and flew home for 3rd a nose away from 2nd. |
Race 9 | WATERLOO HOTEL STAKES - C1 - 545 | Aqua Hobo (1) led out to the first turn, was headed, then ran on strongly in the home straight to get up and win from Rose Cee Cee (7) which led into the straight. Lazy Harry (2) was close up, led in the back straight, and rapidly faded to finish last. |
Race 10 | SICK DAY STAKES - C2/3 - 545 | Old Hopeless (6) led out and bolted in by 8 and three quarter lengths from favourite Aqua Goofy (4) which was slow early and made ground. Groovy Jewel (1) made a late charge in the straight for 3rd after being well back early. |
Race 11 | MAINLINE ELECTRICAL SPRINT - C1 - 310 | Favourite Marrick Maid (8) was close up early and ran on best in the straight to beat Mega Bytes (3). Ejay's Landing (7) led into the straight and fought on for 3rd. |
Race 12 | 10 O'CLOCK DAIRY DASH - C2/3 - 310 | Mister Howley (7) led all the way and won by 5 and a half lengths from the favourite Homebush Steve (2), with Here Goes (4) running on for 3rd after a very slow start. |
