Race 1 | MAIDEN STAKES - C0 - 525 | JO JO SAM was scratched with lameness in a forelimb and will stand down for ten days. MIGHTY OMATA was a late scratching when found to be under weight and the Trainer was fined $ 100-00 under Rule 269 (3). FINN was scratched after being wrongly entered after a misunderstanding at the Association office. MONTOYA DUSTY and COMMANDO JEWEL were slow away and then collided soon after and settled at the rear. COMMANDO JEWEL, who was well supported, then had some trouble clearing JESSICA'S GAMBLE as they raced around the first bend. Once in the clear, she ran home well for fourth placing. The favourite JESSICA'S GAMBLE was also slow to begin, raced wide on the bends and appeared a little lost at his first start on the track. He was observed to be running on at the end. JO JO SAM. Race 2 | BRYCE FRANCIS GRAPHICS - C1 - 295 | INKYMORE was scratched due to muscle soreness in a hind leg, was presented and stood down for seven days. WINSOME HA HA was scratched Ex Wanganui on 18.08.03. CECILIA BRYAN moved across quickly from the start and caused severe tightening and checks to several runners with the worst affected being OUTER HERE and PRESIDENT UNO and they both lost all chance. Race 3 | CLASSIC ROOFING DASH - C3/4 - 295 | HOSTILE HONCHO jumped best and then moved in causing tightening to JESSICA'S ECHO and OLD MONARO who settled well back. OLD MONARO recovered and ran on well for a close fourth while JESSICA'S ECHO never got going afterwards and finished in last place. |
Race 4 | TXT4TIPS (M9 R? 8477) - C2/3 - 525 | The favourite WINSOME RAIDER was one of the slowest away and then stepped over the heels of SOME CANDY on the first corner and ran wide. He stayed out wide, covering extra ground but finished well to get third place. |
Race 5 | IMPROVERS STAKES HEAT 1 - C1q - 525 Heat 1 | WINSOME BEAUTY and HOMEBUSH BILL were slow away and settled well back. One of the favourites CHESTNUT BALE settled well back and only ran on fairly to finish about mid-field. |
Race 6 | IMPROVERS STAKES HEAT 2 - C1q - 525 Heat 1 | CHEEKY PETE was a scratching and is now deceased. DR CHIVARGO moved across sharply from the start and caused jostling and checks to UNLAWFUL LASS, ZOTON PARK, GONE TROPPO and SEASPRAY PADERO who all settled well back. SPRING REBEL had good recent form and was well supported but failed to race up to expectations and finished in last place. Race 9 | WELLINGTON CHAMPION SPRINT HEAT 1 - C5q - 295 Heat 1 | HOMEBUSH WILLY ran out soon after the start and caused jostling to ALLEGRO BEAM, SOMEONE'S MAGIC and BRADANCAS with the hot favourite ALLEGRO BEAM almost falling and losing all chance. BRADANCAS recovered well to win narrowly. |
