CODE BREAKING was a Club scratching after being incorrectly placed in a Class 2 race by the N.Z.G.R.A. ROCK CHAPEL was scratched and is now deceased. CONWAY BALE ran onto the heels of RAPID CROSS on the first corner, moved out sharply and made firm contact with WINK AND BLINK. WINK AND BLINK was forced out over the heels of SAMSON PHOENIX and in doing so forced WHIPPER SNAPPER wide on the bend. SAMSON PHOENIX dropped out from there and finished several lengths last. FUNNY FEELING moved across in the run to the first corner and caused severe checks to MISS CHANTELLE and SMART TIP. MISS CHANTELLE lost all chance and SMART TIP fell but was not injured. SUMMER SWEET jumped on terms with the other runners but could not keep up with the pace, settled well back and stayed there. HOT SCORPION, LOWER THE BOOM, GLORIA'S CHARM and CHIPPEWA BRAVE came together and jostled for several strides in the run to the first corner.
