Track: Good The 390 metre starting boxes malfunctioned at the start of Race 6 and failed to open at the first pass of the lure. This resulted in the remaining events from this start point being manually started.

Race 1 SOUTHLAND GREYHOUNDS WELCOME - C0 - 390 IDOL BUTCHER (2) ran inwards from the boxes inconveniencing GOODBYE PORKPIE (1) which was pushed down the track sharply. KELLY'S MY NAME (4), HOMEBUSH SLOAN (5) and TODD BLUE BLOOD (6) came together and bumped in the early stages. HOMEBUSH SLOAN checked inwards across heels shortly after colliding with GOODBYE PORKPIE which lost ground. ROOKIE RACER (8) ran inwards racing into the bend resulting in TODD BLUE BLOOD contacting the hindquarters of ROOKIE RACER which was dragged down for several strides, losing considerable ground. ROOKIE RACER underwent a post-race Veterinary examination which revealed a wound to the left-hind stifle.
Race 2 SOUTHLAND & OTAGO PHOTO FINISH - C0 - 457 SPRING SAM (3), MYA TIME (4) and HOMEBUSH SKIP (5) were tightened shortly after the start when between OPAWA MERC (2) and OPAWA JUDY (6), both of which shifted ground. HELENA ALLEN (8) ran inwards approaching the bend colliding with ALBIE PUNTER (1), with HELENA ALLEN losing momentum. OPAWA MERC shifted outwards across heels rounding the bend resulting in HOMEBUSH SKIP being pushed wider on the track.
Race 3 CONGRATULATIONS PUNTAPATON - C1 - 390 GLORY HOG (7) was slow to jump. CRONOS (8) ran inwards shortly after the start crowding IDOL BILLIE (6) for a short distance. HIS NIBS (4) and ANOTHER JAMIE (5) collided on a number of occasions in the early stages. ANOTHER VESPA (3) raced in restricted room racing into the bend when to the inside of ANOTHER JAMIE. OPAWA EXPRESS (1) and DEFINITE (2) came together and bumped on several occasions rounding the final bend and through the early stages of the home straight.
Race 4 SGRC $50 LEATHER LEADS - C1 - 390 ANOTHER CRUISE (5) was slow to jump. OZARK'S WATCH (7) was crowded shortly after the start when between RIB CURLER (6) and LOTS OF BEERSIES (8) which ran inwards. FRECKLE FLYER (3) and ANOTHER SPIN (4) jostled through the early stages.
Race 5 MR WHIPPY SOUTHLAND - C2 - 390 DEBORAH BAY (3) and SCARY CANARY collided shortly after the start when both runners shifted ground. DEBORAH BAY and HOMEBUSH RILEY (8) jostled through the early stages, with both runners being crowded entering the bend when inside CAWBOURNE CRAIG (7) which ran inwards. GOSSIP QUEEN (1) was inconvenienced over the concluding stages when in restricted room between HELLO BLONDIE (2) and CAWBOURNE CRAIG.
Race 6 ADDED ENERGY DASH - C2 - 390 A false start was declared after the starting boxes at the 390 metres malfunctioned and in consequence failed to open on the first pass of the lure. All greyhounds were unloaded from the back of their respective boxes and underwent veterinary examinations which cleared them fit to race. The starting boxes were tested and found to be operating without mechanical failure. THRILLING SPELL (6) ran inwards abruptly soon after the start forcing OPAWA LIBY (5) into the line of THESEUS (3), with both runners being hampered for several strides losing ground. Upon further inspection of the 390 metre starting boxes by the on-course Electrician following the event it was established that the mechanical failure was due to a jammed metal latch which holds the box in place and subsequently was unable to release. The Club advised that further testing will be carried out on the starting boxes in consultation with Greyhound Racing New Zealand.
Race 7 ASCOT PARK CONSORTIUM - C2/3 - 390 HOMEBUSH HOWARD (5) and IMPERSONATOR (7) were slow to jump. CAWBOURNE SARAH (3) ran inwards entering the bend resulting in the trailing HOMEBUSH HOWARD having to check outwards off that runners heels. CAWBOURNE SARAH raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
Race 8 INVERCARGILL STAKES - C1 - 457 SPEEDY BLUEBLOOD (4) ran inwards from the boxes pushing OPAWA PENNY (3) onto the hindquarters of LAGOON ALLIRA (2) which was unbalanced. ALBIE MCLEOD (6) was crowded at the start when between STAR APACHE (5) and AMINO TROUBLE (7) which ran inwards abruptly. HOMEBUSH ERROL (1) and AMINO TROUBLE came together and collided on several occasions in the early stages, with HOMEBUSH ERROL being tightened entering the bend when AMINO TROUBLE ran inwards. This resulted in HOMEBUSH ERROL coming back onto the trailing LAGOON ALLIRA which shifted outwards when taking evasive action forcing OPAWA PENNY onto ALBIE MCLEOD, with OPAWA PENNY being dragged down momentarily by ALBIE MCLEOD in consequence.
Race 9 OTATARA STAKES - C1 - 457 ZIPPING PIPER (6) was slow to jump, shifting inwards abruptly and colliding with ODIN SLAYER (3). HOMEBUSH FLAME (2) ran outwards into the line of WHAT I LIKE (4) approaching the bend resulting in that runner being hampered for several strides and contacting the heel of HOMEBUSH FLAME. WHAT I LIKE then ran outwards across the heels of HOMEBUSH FLAME pushing OPAWA BUCKS (8) wider on the track.
Race 10 SGRC $26 FIVE WIRE MUZZLE STAKES - C3 - 390 AIR EXRESS (6) and HUMAN INSTINCT (5) collided shortly after the start. AIR EXPRESS then ran inwards approaching the bend pushing HUMAN INSTINCT down the track into the line of OPAWA LEAN MEAT (4) and TILT (2), with all runners being hampered. HUMAN INSTINCT contacted the hindquarters of OPAWA OPAL (8) rounding the bend, with OPAWA OPAL becoming unbalanced. OPAWA LEAN MEAT underwent a post-race Veterinary examination which revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Race 11 GREYHOUNDSASPETS.ORG.NZ - C3/4 - 457 PUKEKO BOLT (2) was crowded leaving the boxes when between IDOL LEANNE (1) and NINA BAXTER (3), both of which shifted ground. IDOL LEANNE and NINA BAXTER collided shortly after. NINA BAXTER was crowded through the early stages when between ABRASADOR (4) and IDOL LEANNE which was inclined to shift ground outwards. NINA BAXTER ran inwards across heels soon after colliding with PUKEKO BOLT. DYNA QUIRK (6) ran wide entering the home straight.
Race 12 RACING AGAIN 5TH JULY - C4/5 - 390 HARKONEN BALE (5) checked inwards shortly after the start when becoming awkwardly placed near the heels of CHICAGO BLACK (9/4). PUMA PANTS (1) ran outwards through the early stages crowding SOUTHERN MIST (2) onto CHICAGO BLACK which was hampered. TECHNIC (7) and MAGIC MIKE (6) raced in restricted room approaching the bend when inside WHEELCHAIR NORM (8) which ran inwards. WHEELCHAIR NORM continued to shift ground inwards crowding HOMEBUSH ROCKY (3) inwards onto PUMA PANTS (1) rounding the bend. HOMEBUSH ROCKY, WHEELCHAIR NORM and MAGIC MIKE bumped on a number of occasions rounding the final stages of the bend, with WHEELCHAIR NORM and CHICAGO BLACK colliding entering the home straight. WHEELCHAIR NORM then ran outwards in the early stages of the home straight colliding with TECHNIC which in turn bumped HARKONEN BALE.
