Track: Good Southland Greyhound Racing Club advised Stewards that following the malfunction of the 390 metre starting boxes in Race 11 on the 24 May 2016, maintenance had been carried out where an issue with the box trigger was evident and subsequently rectified. The Club further added that the starting boxes have been thoroughly tested prior to today's meeting and no issues were detected.
Scales: Correct at all weights.
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: 1) MINA ALLEN was declared a late scratching at 7:58am. Given the circumstances surrounding the scratching and after speaking with Trainer A C Roberts, Stewards accepted his explanation acting on compassionate grounds. 2) Co-Trainer/Handler J Fahey and Kennel Steward S Garthwaite were issued with Minor Infringement Notice's pursuant to Rule 71.1(c) and fined $50 after the incorrect number was placed on MAJESTIC ACTION (Race 7).

Race 1	SOUTHLAND GREYHOUNDS WELCOME - C0 - 390	OPAWA SPRINTER (7) and HOMEBUSH SLOAN (8) were last to jump. OPAWA SPRINTER then ran inwards through the early stages crowding ROOKIE RACER (2) and HOMEBUSH SKIP (4) entering the bend. ROOKIE RACER was then further hampered when colliding with the trailing HOMEBUSH SLOAN. OPAWA SPRINTER ran outwards rounding the bend colliding with the hindquarters of IDOL BUTCHER (1) which was unbalanced.
Race 2	ADDED ENERGY DASH - C2 - 390	DEBORAH BAY (5) and PUKEKO WARRIOR (6) raced in restricted room approaching the bend, with DEBORAH BAY colliding with TOKEN ACE (8) on several occasions. PUKEKO WARRIOR was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon following the event and found to have swelling in the right-hind hock.
Race 3	SGRC $26 FIVE WIRE MUZZLE STAKES - C1 - 390	RIB CURLER (4) and ANOTHER JAMIE (8) were slow to begin. LOTS OF BEERSIES (7) ran inwards through the early stages colliding with SHEZ KEEN (6). Soon after, SHEZ KEEN checked outwards across heels resulting in ANOTHER JAMIE making contact with the hindquarters of SHEZ KEEN which was unbalanced for several strides. FRECKLE FLYER (5) ran inwards entering the bend crowding HOMEBUSH RILEY (1) which in turn checked outwards across heels forcing ALBIE MCLEOD (2) and RIB CURLER wider, with RIB CURLER clipping a heel and losing ground. SHEZ KEEN was examined by the Veterinarian following the event which revealed a wound to the left-foreleg.
Race 4	www.southlandgreyhounds.co.nz - C1 - 390	HOMEBUSH ERROL (1) was placed in restricted room entering the bend when racing to the inside of HIS NIBS (3) which was forced inwards by THESEUS (5). THESEUS raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 5	SGRC $50 LEATHER LEADS - C0 - 457	FAB ACTION (7) was slow to jump. LIGHT THAW (9/3) was checked leaving the boxes between MYA TIME (5) and OPAWA RICHIE (2) which ran outwards abruptly.
Race 6	ASCOT PARK CONSORTIUM - C1 - 457	NOZZNO FEAR (4) was crowded leaving the boxes between CRONOS (3) and RHINEGOLDE (5), both of which shifted ground. OPAWA LIBBY (8) ran inwards shortly after the start pushing OPAWA JANET (7) into the line of HOMEBUSH FLAME (6) which was unbalanced. SPEEDY BLUEBLOOD (1) checked outwards approaching the bend when crowded for room to the inside of OBEYANCE (2).
Race 7	MR WHIPPY SOUTHLAND - C2/3 - 457	The start of this race was delayed due to the incorrect number being placed on MAJESTIC ACTION. ACE BALE (6) was crowded leaving the boxes between MAJESTIC ACTION (5) and BOTANY ALAN (7) which ran inwards abruptly. MAJESTIC ACTION checked outwards across heels when tightened for room to the inside of COUNTRY CROSSING (1) entering the bend, resulting in BOTANY ALAN being pushed wider on the track. PUKEKO BOLT (8) was checked rounding the bend between MAJESTIC ACTION and ACE BALE which had improved along the inside and shifted outwards.
Race 8	THE CANARY'S COMP AGAIN - C3 - 390	HOMEBUSH ARIEL (5) and FEAR MARINA (9/4) collided on jumping. CAWBOURNE SARAH (8) ran inwards sharply entering the bend making heavy contact with OPAWA OPAL (7) which in turn collided with HOMEBUSH ARIEL. HUMAN INSTINCT (3) raced in restricted room rounding the bend between CHICAGO BLACK (1) and FEAR MARINA. HOMEBUSH ARIEL ran wide entering the home straight.
Race 9	Racing Series Graduation Final - NZRSf - 457	Co-Trainer/Handler J Fahey slipped en-route to the stir-up area resulting in her losing control of JINJA HEART which escaped for a short distance. JINJA HEART was recaptured and was cleared to start following a pre-race veterinary examination. NINA BAXTER (6) ran inwards abruptly from the boxes tightening KNOW NEGLECT (5), ANOTHER BELLE (4) and OPAWA NORRIS (3).
Race 10	GREYHOUNDSASPETS.ORG.NZ - C4/5 - 390	DEFINER (5) was last to jump. DYNA QUIRK (3) ran outwards in the early stages forcing DEFINER into the line of OPAWA CRUSADE (9/8) resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. Rounding the bend, BURN EARLY (1) contacted the hindquarters of STORMING NORM (2) which was unbalanced for several strides.
Race 11	INVERCARGILL DISTANCE - C1/2d - 630	PIANISSIMO (7) was slow to jump. CAWBOURNE MIAMI (2) ran outwards entering the first bend crowding LAGOON MYTYE (3) outwards onto NO TINKERBELL (4), with WAR CLOAK (5) and SOUTHERN LIGHTS (8) being taken wider on the track. OCTAGON'S GHOST (1) was crowded rounding the final bend between HIP HOP SOFIA (6) and SOUTHERN LIGHTS which improved to its outside and shifted inwards.
Race 12	justracing.com.au - C4/5 - 390	MR. MARINE (5) was crowded leaving the boxes between ABRASADOR (4) and BLACK CROW (6), both of which shifted ground. ABRASADOR and BLACK CROW were inconvenienced in the early stages when racing to the outside of HOMEBUSH KELSO (3) which was forced outwards abruptly by TECHNIC (2). HARKONEN BALE (7) ran inwards approaching the bend checking ABRASADOR which came back onto the trailing MR. MARINE which was checked, losing ground. HARKONEN BALE and CAWBOURNE PATTY (8) collided in the early stages of the home straight.
