Stipendiary Stewards Report

Otago Greyhound Racing Club

Forbury Park Raceway ON TUESDAY 05 Apr 2016

Weather: Cloudy
Track: Good . Power from the remote lure controller to the lure drive failed prior to the meeting and the controller was shifted to the inside of the track with the lure driver operating from there for the entire meeting. In the testing of the lure two rollers which guide the lure carriage wire snapped off and required welding. The lure was then tested after the welds and worked satisfactorily. The delay resulted in the meeting being put back with a revised start time of 1.09pm. With the lure driver on the inside of the track there was some variance in lure distances, which resulted in a No Race being declared in race 1 with an unacceptably high distance of the lure from the lead dog, and Stewards carefully reviewed each race thereafter with all races cleared.
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment: Nil.

Judicial report: ACE ACTION (JT McInerney) was suspended under Rule 79.1a for marring and, as this was the greyhound's second offence under Rule 79.1, the period of suspension was three months with ACE ACTION required to complete a Satisfactory Trial before resuming.

Incident Reports

Race Number Race Name Incident Report
Race 1 www.greyhoundsaspets.org.nz - C0 - 310 Under Rule 75.2 the race was declared a No Race after the lure was well in excess of 25 metres in front of the lead dog with the rest of the field several metres further back. The lead dog was unable to see the lure rounding the bend and into the straight. Stewards reviewed the race film and deemed that all greyhounds had their chances materially affected by the excessive lure distance. Stewards spoke to the lure driver who was operating the lure from the inside of the track due to an earlier power failure from the control box to the lure. The lure driver was re-positioned for the following race with a higher view of the track. Following the abandoned race a veterinary check was made on GOLDSTAR DELTA (4) who struck the running rail in the race with no injury incurred.
Race 2 Brian Bagley Driver Licensing Sprint - C1 - 310 From the jump ACE ACTION (3) turned his head and ran inwards contacting and checking MITCHELL DEAN (2) and CASTLE EDEN (1) on his inside. ACE ACTION then ran sharply outwards colliding with SOUTHERN MIST (7) and ROB'S MATE (8) with the trailing DEBORAH BAY (5) also checked. In the run to the turn ACE ACTION continued to push outwards with his head turned and mouth open making repeated contact with ROB'S MATE and marring that dog's running. Into the turn SUBTERFUGE (6) and THRILLING SPELL (9/4) bumped and lost momentum with the trailing DEBORAH BAY held up. After reviewing the film ACE ACTION was deemed to have marred the running of other greyhounds in the race and suspended under Rule 79.1a. As this was the greyhound's second offence under Rule 79.1 the suspension period was three months with ACE ACTION required to complete a Satisfactory Trial before resuming.
Race 3 Bramwell Scaffolding Stakes - C0 - 545 OPAWA BUCKS (1), GOLDSTAR BOOMER (2) and GOLDSTAR DALLAS (5) were slow to jump. On the first turn PIANISSIMO ran wide off the heels of FRECKLE FLYER. Stewards withheld authorisation of placings until reviewing the video after noting the initial lure distance was over 8m in front of the lead dog at the beginning of the race but determined that no runners had been adversely affected and duly cleared the race for payment under Rule 75.1.
Race 5 Dave Robbie Photographer Sprint - C1 - 310 From the jump OPAWA PERISSA (4) shifted ground outwards checking WINNE WILLOW (5). In the run to the turn HOLLY BLUE BLOOD (8) ran inwards checking BUSINESS BOSS (7) with the trailing OPAWA PERISSA also checked and becoming unbalanced losing ground.

Shortly after the jump HOMEBUSH GRU (7) shifted ground outwards checking DINERO ACTION (8) who became unbalanced and lost momentum. In the run to the turn MUST DESIRE continued to run inwards tightening OPAWA LEAN MEAT and checking the trailing OPAWA COLIN (1). Into the turn OPAWA COLIN and OPAWA OPAL (6) bumped heavily with both dogs losing ground. On the turn DINERO ACTION took the bend awkwardly and lost ground to finish last. A post race veterinary check revealed DINERO ACTION to have dislocated the right hock with the greyhound stood down for 21 days pending an x-ray and further vet check. Stewards and the club track committee inspected the track and reviewed the film and found no obvious deficiency with the racing surface and penetrometer readings were within acceptable limits.
