Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: (1) Trainer M Grant was issued with a warning under Rule 87.1(y) in regard to his obligations under the NZGRA Dress Code. (2) Stewards deemed the performance of THRILLING SPELL in Race 11 to be unsatisfactory and ordered that the greyhound must complete one satisfactory trial in accordance with Rule 80.1 which would be reviewed if a subsequent vet examination determined that the greyhound had suffered an injury. The requirement to complete a trial was subsequently removed after a shoulder injury was detected upon the dog cooling down.

Race 1	www.southlandgreyhounds.co.nz - C4 - 390	From the jump BACKCHAT HARRY shifted outwards from the No. 7 box tightening UNO BRENT on his outer. Into the turn AI EXPRESS ran inwards tightening HUMAN INSTINCT. After the race OPAWA OPAL was examined by the vet with a superficial skin laceration on the left fore leg detected and a 7 day stand down recommended.
Race 2	CONGRATULATIONS "HUGH G!" - C2 - 390	ANOTHER JAMIE, KENTARO BAXTER, HOMEBUSH RILEY, SKETCHY STEVE and NO BRO came together in the early stages. KENTARO BAXTER, SKETCHY STEVE and NO BRO collided rounding the bend with SKETCHY STEVE becoming unbalanced. The trailing HOMEBUSH RILEY was also hampered. ANOTHER JAMIE and JOYNER KERSEE bumped in the early stages of the run home.
Race 3	SGRC $26 FIVE WIRE MUZZLES - C0 - 457	SLYNESS and OPAWA POPPY collided racing into the bend. Shortly after FRECKLE FLYER and ANOTHER CASINO collided with both dogs falling. The trailing OCTAGONS GHOST was also hampered. ALEX RUMBLE made the bend awkwardly forcing SLYNESS over extra ground. OPAWA POPPY checked off the heels of ALEX RUMBLE early in the run home and lost momentum. OCTAGONS GHOST ran wide in the final straight. ANOTHER CASINO and FRECKLE FLYER were both examined by the Vet following the race with no abnormalities detected.
Race 4	GREEN CHARTEUSE CHALLENGE - C1 - 390	JOEY BAXTER was slow to begin. CAWBOURNE HINT and CRYSTALL MCBELL bumped at the start. HOMEBUSH MESSI, CAWBOURNE HINT and CRYSTALL MCBELL came together in the early stages. THUNDER DRAGON, CAWBOURNE HINT and CRYSTALL MCBELL collided approaching the bend. CAWBOURNE HINT then shifted inwards and made contact with EBONY FANCY.
Race 5	greyhoundsaspets.org.nz - C1 - 390	GLENN IS GOODESY was slow to jump. Into the turn GLORY HOG ran inwards tightening APOLLO BAXTER and GLENN IS GOODESY. On the turn APOLLO BAXTER checked outwards off the heels of GLORY HOG and collided with SUBTERFUGE who became unbalanced and lost momentum. In the straight APOLLO BAXTER and OPAWA EXPRESS ran wide.
Race 6	THRILLING MARTY FAREWELL - C3 - 457	Shortly after the jump LAGOON BELLE was tightened between UGO FLASH and THRILLING MARTY. Into the turn HOMEBUSH BUCK was tightened when IZZEY BALE and UGO FLASH ran inwards. On the turn and in the straight THRILLING MARTY ran wide.
Race 7	"BRAH" McDONALD SPRINT - C1 - 390	PUKEKO WARRIOR was slow to begin. PUKEKO WARRIOR checked off the heels of STENSON in the early stages. TAMASKA checked off the heels of ADRENALIN KICK into the bend and shifted outwards making contact with STENSON. Shortly after ADRENALIN KICK became awkwardly placed on the heels of DEVILSKIN and shifted wider on the track checking THRILLING SHRIMP. ANOTHER SPIN and TAMASKA came together in the final straight.
Race 8	SOUTHLAND & OTAGO PHOTO FINISH - C1 - 390	APOLLO KING was slow to begin. ANOTHER VESPA checked off the heels of STORMING NORM in the early stages. BADUZZI shifted outwards approaching the first bend when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of COOL DEXTER checking STORMING NORM. BADUZZI and STORMING NORM again collided rounding the bend with the trailing CRYSTAL FLAME, ANOTHER VESPA and NICKSTA all being checked. APOLLO KING raced wide throughout.
Race 9	RACING AGAIN NEXT TUESDAY - C1 - 457	DEBORAH BAY, TAMARA MAY, OPAWA SMOKE, WITH PRIDE and CAWBOURNE EDEN came together at the start. DEBORAH BAY and CAWBOURNE EDEN bumped in the early stages. Approaching the bend TAMARA MAY checked off the heels of OPAWA SMOKE. Racing into the bend OPAWA SMOKE checked off the heels of CAWBOURNE EDEN and shifted wider checking DEBORAH BAY, TAMARA MAY and PIANISSIMO. OPAWA SMOKE and TAMARA MAY collided rounding the bend. PIANISSIMO raced wide throughout.
Race 10	ADDED ENERGY - C1/2 - 457	THRILLING HUNT shifted inwards at the start checking LAGOON TWIST and PUKEKO BOLT. SHINES BRIGHT was placed in restricted room approaching the bend when racing to the inside of NINA BAXTER and lost ground. SHINES BRIGHT and PUKEKO BOLT collided leaving the bend.
Race 11	HAPPY NEW YEAR - C3 - 390	THRILLING SPELL began awkwardly before being tightened between RED MARGIN and HOMEBUSH ERROL. THRILLING SPELL lost ground racing into the bend before being bumped by OPAWA BART with THRILLING SPELL trailing the field thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination of THRILLING SPELL revealed no injury. Stewards deemed the performance of THRILLING SPELL unsatisfactory and ordered that the greyhound must complete one satisfactory trial which would be reviewed if a subsequent vet examination after cooling down determined that the greyhound had suffered an injury. The greyhound was examined the following day with a left shoulder muscle injury detected and a stand down imposed. The requirement to trial was cancelled accordingly.
Race 12	justracing.com.au - C4/5 - 390	ROADWORKS and IMPERSONATOR bumped at the start. Into the turn BOUND TO ERUPT and WUNZEE came together with the trailing ROADWORKS being inconvenienced. ROADWORKS then shifted outwards and came together with IMPERSONATOR. BOUND TO ERUPT checked off the heels of OPAWA STRETCH early in the run home checking IMPERSONATOR and SMASH RUMOUR. BOUND TO ERUPT and OPAWA STRETCH were both examined by the vet following the race and cleared of injury.
