Weather: Cloudy
Track: Dead .The club has installed new starting boxes at the 390m and 457m starting points and these were in use for the first time today. These proved very effective, reliable and were favourably commented on by trainers in attendance at the meeting. The track was dead early in the meeting but improved to good after fine drying weather for the second half of the programme.
Scales: Correct at 5,10 and 20kg
Health and Safety comment: Nil.

Judicial report: With the tight time between races, exacerbated by the dual code with the Invercargill Harness Racing Club, and the distance from the kennels to the starting boxes, the Southland club did not offer stir-ups to greyhounds as provided under Rule 71.11 due to time constraints. Stewards were advised that the club had raised the matter with the NZGRA and understood that a dispensation had been granted in this regard. The matter to be further discussed with the NZGRA and clarification sought in respect to future meetings, both dual code and otherwise.

Race 2	SOUTHLAND & OTAGO PHOTO FINISH - C1 - 390	CAWBOURNE PEEJAY was slow to jump. From the jump SCARY CANARY ran inwards from the No. 3 box checking HOMEBUSH SLINKY and BITA BANTA on her inner. SCARY CANARY then shifted ground outwards into the bend and dictated CAWBOURNE PEEJAY wide on the track.
Race 3	GREYHOUNDSASPETS.ORG.NZ - C1 - 390	CAMSIDE GOLD jumped awkwardly and lost ground. From the jump CAWBOURNE DANIAL shifted ground inwards from the No. 4 box tightening OPAWA VENUS and LIL DANNY RASCAL on his inside. Into and around the bend NO BRO and CAMSIDE GOLD bumped and lost momentum. On the turn LIL DANNY RASCAL shifted ground outwards checking OPAWA VENUS, and into the home straight SAILORS COLLAR ran outwards checking LIL DANNY RASCAL.
Race 4	ORETI BEACH SAND STAKES - C1/2 - 390	WAIMAK DAVE ran sharply inwards from the jump from the No. 7 box tightening LOTS OF BEERSIES and dictating YALDHURST EDWARD into the path of MATTY HOOKY who was checked. Into the turn LOTS OF BEERSIES ran inwards checking MATTY HOOKY and OPAWA LAZ. On the turn SHEZA GAMBLE ran wide and lost ground.
Race 5	SOUTHLAND STAKES - C4 - 390	Into the turn SOUMILLON was tightened between RINGA DING and LAGOON BELLE who shifted outwards and dictated COVER TO COVER wide on the track.
Race 6	ADDED ENERGY STAKES - C0 - 457	OPAWA LARRY bounded at the start and lost ground. From the jump OPAWA EXTREME shifted ground outwards checking CAWBOURNE ROWAN. Into the turn OPAWA GRUNTER pushed outwards checking CAWBOURNE KENNY.
Race 7	BRENDON BURKE @ RAY WHITE - C1 - 457	From the jump HOMEBUSH NINJA ran outwards forcing ALBIE MCLEOD wide. Into the turn LAGOON VICTORY ran outwards tightening ARCHIE'S COMET with the trailing HOMEBUSH NINJA and ALBIE MCLEOD inconvenienced.
Race 8	SGRC $26 FIVE WIRE MUZZLE STAKES - C1 - 457	From the jump WAIRIO DEE JAY was slow and ran wide down the back straight. PAGANI made the turn awkwardly and lost momentum. Into the home straight OPAWA RAPID shifted ground outwards checking CALINDA GIRL.
Race 9	SGRC $50 LEATHER LEADS - C1/2 - 457	From the jump JINJA LOCH ran inwards from the No. 5 box tightening THRILLING HUNT who in turn checked CHLOE'S PRODIGY. Shortly after HOMEBUSH HOWARD ran inwards from the No. 8 box and made heavy contact with JIJNA LOCH with that dog becoming unbalanced and losing momentum. Into the turn BRUISER BALE ran outwards and forced OPAWA JED out into the path of CHLOE'S PRODIGY with both these dogs checked and losing all chances. Following the race a veterinary check of BRUISER BALE showed an abrasion and cut to the right hind foot with a thee day stand down recommended.
Race 10	DUAL-CODE STAKES - C3 - 457	In the run to the turn WHAT I LIKE ran inwards checking THUMB PRINT TONY and RAMBUNCTIOUS shifted down from the No. 8 box tightening RUNAWAY TAXI on his inner. Into the turn BOTANY SEXTON ran inwards checking UNRELIABLE ANDY.
Race 11	RACING AGAIN 24TH FEBRUARY - C4/5 - 457	Into the turn ROBBIE shifted ground outwards checking JESSIE SURFS and forcing THRILLING MARTY wide, with the trailing FLIP FLIPPA also checked.
Race 12	justracing.com.au - C4/5 - 390	CHOKEHOLD was slow to jump. From the jump ZIPPING JYE ran sharply inwards from the No. 7 box checking CHOKEHOLD and dictating CAWBOURNE JELLY inwards into the path of ON THE LEVEL. Into the turn ON THE LEVEL shifted ground inwards severely checking FLYING SWAN who lost ground. Also on the turn CHOKEHOLD ran inwards checking CAWBOURNE JELLY.
