Judicial report: (1) Trainer D Stapleton was issued with a warning under Rule 71.1c when the appropriate race rug was not placed on MR NOVEMBER in Race 6 when leaving the kennel block. A warning under this Rule was further issued to the Southland Greyhound Racing Club in that race day officials allowed the greyhound to be rugged and leave the kennel block with the incorrect number. (2) An inquiry was opened and adjourned into the presentation of the incorrect greyhound at kenneling for race 9 and the subsequent late scratching of CHLOE'S PRODIGY.

From the jump PREMIER PRINCE shifted ground downwards tightening SACAJAWEA with ILABB then stumbling and losing all chance when clipping the heels of SACAJAWEA. Into the turn JAMAICAN ARCHIE ran outwards off the rear of PREMIER PRINCE with both dogs then taken wider on the track when DA LAST CHOOK was tightened between runners and forced to shift ground outwards. |
Race 2 | HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARCO ROSANOWSKI - C1 - 390 | JOHN DORY bounded at the start and TAI BAXTER was slow to jump. Into the turn as the field tightened MILLIE'S BOY ran inwards checking HOMEBUSH SPIKE with the trailing WHELLCHAIR NORM forced outwards. As WHEELCHAIR NORM ran outwards he galloped on the back of MILLIE'S BOY who was severely checked. WHEELCHAIR NORM continued to run outwards and forced TOKEN JUMP and HOMEBUSH SPIKE wider on the track. After the race MILLIE'S BOY was subject to a veterinary check which revealed MILLIE'S BOY was suffering from a soreness to the right fore tricep muscle with a 14 day stand down recommended. |
Race 3 | BRENDON BURKE @ RAY WHITE - C0 - 457 | ZIPPORA BLAZE turned in the starting boxes and took no competitive part in the race, being required to complete a Box Trial under Rule 72.13 prior to nominating or starting again. There were no other racing incidents to report. |
Race 4 | 101 STAKES - C1 - 390 | SHOWROOM jumped awkwardly. Into the turn the field tightened with BUSINESS BOSS, LAGOON VICTORY and ANOTHER PLANE checked. BUSINESS BOSS was then galloped on from behind by LAGOON VICTORY with both dogs being severely checked and losing all chances. BUSINESS BOSS was subject to a veterinary check which revealed the greyhound was suffering from a mild sprain to the right hip with a 7 day stand down recommended. |
Race 5 | SGRC $50 LEATHER LEADS - C1 - 457 | ZULU CHANEL checked off the heels of CAWBOURNE CRUZE just prior to the bend. ALBIE MCLEOD shifted inwards on the bend tightening ARCHI BALE on his inside. |
Race 6 | ASCOT PARK HOTEL DASH - C2 - 390 | Prior to the start MR NOVEMBER was presented with the incorrect race rug. Trainer D Stapleton admitted a breach of Rule 71.1.c in that the appropriate rug had not been placed on the greyhound. It was determined that MR NOVEMBER had not been paraded nor taken on the track with the incorrect rug and the error had been corrected immediately by the trainer upon leaving the kennel block. Under the circumstances Stewards issued Mr Stapleton and the Southland Greyhound Racing Club, whose kennel staff had allowed the incorrect rug to be allocated, with a warning pursuant to Rule 71. In the race MR NOVEMBER and OPAWA LAZ made contact at the start with PETRA HAKA making contact with the hind quarters of OPAWA LAZ shortly afterwards. MATTY HOOKY ran off to the outside of the track in the home straight. |
Race 7 | INVERCARGILL STAKES - C1 - 457 | CAWBOURNE MIAMI was a late scratching after being found to be in season when presented to the veterinarian at kenneling. MEGA VOLT began awkwardly losing several lengths at the start. SPEEDY SWEDE and ARCHIE'S COMET were also slow to begin. BRUISER BALE was tightened over the early stages when racing between LAGOON TWIST and BOTANY LIZ with BOTANY LIZ losing its momentum. FANCY KIWI and LAGOON TWIST made contact on the bend when vying for the lead. BOTANY LIZ was checked from behind by ARCHIE'S COMET just prior to the home straight. |
Race 8 | WWW.GREYHOUNDSASPETS.ORG.NZ - C3 - 390 | RAMBUNCTIOUS shifted inwards at the jump checking ANOTHER COLT and CAWBOURNE BUTTSY, with RAMBUNCTIOUS then making contact with OPAWA OPAL in the run to the bend. On the bend CHAIMBO shifted off the heels of LA FONTAINE resulting in CHAIMBO taking ANOTHER COLT wide on the turn. |
Race 9 | SGRC $26 FIVE WIRE MUZZLE STAKES - C2/3 - 457 | CHLOE'S PRODIGY was a late scratching at 3.40pm after the incorrect dog was presented at kenneling. SHEEZA FLOWER lost contact with the remainder of the field shortly after the start and finished a distant last placing. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the greyhound to have pain on flexion of both wrists and left shoulder muscle pain with a 28 day stand down recommended. |
Race 10 | www.southlandgreyhounds.co.nz - C4 - 390 | RINGA DING, HOMEBUSH ROCKY and GRUNT RODGERS all bumped on several occasions in the run to the bend. On the point of the bend GRUNT RODGERS, OPAWA BART, BOTANY SEATON and IMPERSONATOR all come together resulting in GRUNT RODGERS being turned sideways. OPAWA BART also lost ground in this incident. GRUNT RODGERS was further impeded prior to the home straight when crossed over by OPAWA BART. A veterinary examination was requested of GRUNT RODGERS with no injury detected. |
Race 11 | ADDED ENERGY - C4/5 - 457 | SANDI CLAWS, JESSIE SURFS, OPAWA TOM and JINJARANGO all come together shortly after the start. Prior to the home straight SANDI CLAWS was checked when racing between OPAWA TOM and BOTANY KEVIN. In the home straight JINJARANGO was galloped on from behind by JESSIE SURFS. The Stewards requested a veterinary examination of JINJARANGO which revealed superficial bruising and abrasions to the right hind leg with no associated pain and no stand down recommended. |
Race 12 | justracing.com.au - C5 - 390 | LITTLE MIDNIGHT shifted inwards over the early stages checking PORKY PIG on her inside. MARY MARLOW raced wide in the run to the bend, then shifted inwards on the point of the bend making contact with SMASH RUMOUR which lost his momentum. FLYING SWAN raced wide on the bend. |
