Stipendiary Stewards Report

Southland Greyhound Racing Club

Ascot Park Raceway ON TUESDAY 27 May 2014

Weather: Fine
Track: Good . Stewards reviewed the starts of Races 9, 10 and 12 (two 457m races and one 390m race) to determine if the slowness of the lids opening on each occasion had denied greyhounds a fair start. Whilst no dog had been denied a fair start in the opinion of Stewards, there were minor lacerations on each greyhound above the right eye. There were no stand downs required. Stewards requested that the club review options for improving the operation of the lids on both sets of boxes and report back.
Scales: Correct at 20kg and 30kg
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: (1) D.Stapleton, the trainer of LA FONTAINE, was fined $50 under the Minor Infringements Table when admitting a breach of Rule 68.9 in that he failed to produce the certificate of registration and weight record for the greyhound at kenneling. (2) WATCH OUT TRAPS (D.Stapleton) is required to complete a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with Rule 80.5. (3) HIS LORDSHIP (R.Adcock) was declared a late scratching under Rule 76.9 when denied a fair start in Race 9.

Race 1 www.southlandgreyhounds.co.nz - C0 - 390 In the run to the turn HOMEBUSH ERROL ran inwards and tightened SMASH THAT. Into the turn HE'S A JESSIE shifted down and checked TONY'S CHOICE. On the turn HOMEBUSH ERROL and HE'S A JESSIE bumped, with both dogs losing momentum. Into the home straight CELTIC HOUND was checked when crossed by BLAZING HOT. WATCH OUT TRAPS led to the turn and then, prior to entering the home straight, Stewards observed that WATCH OUT TRAPS eased back when well clear of other runners. WATCH OUT TRAPS made contact with SMASH THAT, briefly checking that runner, before running on in the straight to regain the lead. The dog eased short of the line to finish in second place behind BLAZING HOT who appeared to tie up. Acting under Rule 80.2 Stewards requested a veterinary check of WATCH OUT TRAPS pursuant to consideration of a charge of failing to pursue. The examination revealed WATCH OUT TRAPS had a swollen right wrist with a 21 day stand down recommended. Due to the veterinary check revealing an injury with a 21 day stand down recommended Stewards, acting under Rule 80.5, were unable impose a suspension for failing to pursue. However, WATCH OUT TRAPS was stood down for the recommended 21 days and required to complete a Satisfactory Trial.
