Track: Good . Stewards raised with the club the apparent slowness of lids opening on the starting boxes, particularly those at the 390m mark. The club reported on investigations into options for rectifying the problem, and discussions with the NZGRA, and advised that changes to the hydraulic system would be made this month. Stewards agreed to monitor the situation closely, and reviewed all starts at today's meeting to ensure there were no safety concerns, with no injuries reported or observed during the meeting as a result of the slower opening.

Judicial report: (1) CASTLE EDEN (MJ Hill) successfully completed a Satisfactory Trail under Rule 81.2 at trials conducted by the Otago GRC on 16th March. (2) Trainer AC Roberts made contact early with Stewards to advise of the breakdown of his vehicle en route to Dunedin. Stewards agreed under Rule 64.5 to withdraw greyhounds in Race 4, 6 and 7 without penalty given the exceptional circumstances and the early and ongoing contact made by the trainer.

Race 1	CENTRAL WATER CARRIERS - C0 - 390	LITTLE ARTHUR was slow to begin. Racing into the bend ARCHIE BEAR shifted inwards and struck the running rail and fell heavily to the track. ARCHIE BEAR was referred to the veterinarian for further assessment.
Race 2	www.southlandgreyhounds.co.nz - C0 - 390	BLAZING HOT, MR NOVEMBER and I'M A CHOOK were all slow to begin. CELTIC HOUND and ADMIRAL ADAM both brushed on several occasions in the run to the bend. SHEZ KEEN, BLAZING HOT and MR NOVEMBER all raced wide on the bend.
Race 3	ADDED ENERGY STAKES - C1 - 390	OCHE and WUNZEE contacted heavily at the jump. OCHE was tightened between BOWMAN and OPAWA LEAN MEAT which resulted in OCHE falling. WUNZEE which was trailing OCHE was unable to avoid the fallen runner and fell. Both these runners were referred to the veterinarian for assessment. BOWMAN, JUDITH MARY and HILL OF GRACE all come together rounding the bend. BOWMAN and JUDITH MARY made contact at the straight entrance with JUDITH MARY shifting ground. Following the race HILL OF GRACE was examined by the veterinarian at the trainer's request.
Race 4	SGRC $26 FIVE WIRE MUZZLE STAKES - C1 - 390	CAWBOURNE TIP was a late scratching at 11.40am after trainer C Roberts had suffered transport difficulties on route to Invercargill. HOMEBUSH KELSO jumped awkwardly losing several lengths. RATTLE YA DAGS shifted inwards sharply at the start contacting CAWBOURNE TIP. SAILORS COLLAR, CAWBOURNE FLOYD and ZULU DEB all made contact through the early stages. On the bend CHARLES FREDRICK shifted inwards crowding CAWBOURNE FLOYD and SAILORS COLLAR on its inside. SAILORS COLLAR was checked on the straight entrance when tightened for room on the inside of CAWBOURNE FLOYD. Stewards reviewed the start of this race under Rule 76.9 and noted that while HOMEBUSH KELSO had made contact with the lids it had jumped awkwardly of its own accord prior to that contact, and no further action was required.
Race 5	BRENDON BURKE @ FIRST NATIONAL - C1/2 - 390	JOEY'S SECRET was slow to begin. Racing into the bend OPAWA IDOL shifted off the heels of the leader GYPSY HUNTER resulting in JUST A MATE and SHEEZA FLOWER being tightened for room. SON OF GRACE and SAM'S FLYIN NORMAN made contact on several occasions near the bend. Rounding the turn JOEY'S SECRET shifted off the heels of JUST A MATE checking SHEEZA FLOWER which fell. SHEEZA FLOWER was examined by the veterinarian and cleared of any injury.
Race 6	SOUTHLAND & OTAGO PHOTO FINISH - C1 - 457	CAWBOURNE ARIES and OPAWA ALBIE were both late scratchings after trainer C Roberts had not arrived on course after suffering mechanical problems while travelling to Invercargill. OPAWA DOSH shifted inwards on the bend contacting FANCY KIWI with OPAWA DOSH then checking wide on the track.
Race 7	HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAWN MCLEOD - C1/2 - 457	Trainer C Roberts representatives CAWBOURNE ABBI and CAWBOURNE CRAZY were both late scratchings. Approaching the bend NO MORE BEERSIES faltered and gradually lost contact with the field. NO MORE BEERSIES was examined by the veterinarian post race.
Race 8	ASCOT PARK HOTEL - C3/4 - 457	The start of this race was delayed for 2 minutes at the request of the TAB. STARBURST CLEMMY was slow to begin. PUNCH ON JAIME shifted outwards shortly after the jump checking OPAWA BRO on its outer. When crossing inwards at the turn HUSTLER AMBITION was struck on the hind quarter by OPAWA BRO with BOTH RUNNERS BECOMING UNBALANCED. on the bend CAWBOURNE WAR checked off the heels of WHAT I LIKE then raced wider rounding the bend.
Race 9	Advanced Racing Series Final - NZRSf - 457	HARLEM HAKA shifted inwards at the start with THRILLING MARTY having to check off its heels. On the bend BOTANY KEVIN improved on the inside of HARLEM HAKA with HARLEM HAKA was turned sideways and shifted outwards checking THRILLING MARTY. ANOTHER COLT and OPAWA SWEDE made contact on the bend and lost momentum.
Race 10	www.greyhoundsaspets.org.nz - C3 - 390	Near the turn SOSAN shifted outwards checking BAD WEEK with STARBURST BENNY being inconvenienced.
Race 11	SGRC $50 LEATHER LEADS - C3/4 - 390	AS FAR AS shifted inwards at the start bumping JOYVILLE. Racing towards the bend JOYVILLE shifted outwards crowding ISABELLE DOMAIN onto SMASH RUMOUR. SMASH RUMOUR then shifted outwards contacting JUMPIN' JULIA on its outer who in turn made contact with CAWBOURNE POLLY. AS FAR AS checked off heels on the bend and in turn checked CAWBOURNE POLLY.
Race 12	justracing.com.au - C5 - 390	OPAWA LEGS was slow to begin. Approaching the bend HETFIELD and SOZIN'S COMET made contact on several occasions with SOZIN'S COMET forced to race wider on the track. SOZIN'S COMET then shifted ground inwards checking BELLWAVE.
Race 21	Non Tote C1 - 5 Sprint - Tier 2 - 390	Shortly after the start CAMRAY shifted inwards crowding NEW INGILLTAB and HAZZA'S LAD which made contact. These runners continued to make contact on several occasions racing into the bend. On the bend HAZZA'S LAD shifted outwards checking NEW INGILLTAB with both these runners losing momentum. MISS OZARK which lost contact with the field and finished a distant last placing was referred to the veterinarian for further assessment. The veterinary check was unable to detect any obvious injury. Stewards deemed the performance of MISS OZARK as unsatisfactory and under Rule 81.1 required the greyhound to complete one satisfactory trail before being nominated for or competing at a race meeting. Trainer J Guthrie subsequently advised that MISS OZARK would be retired from racing.
