Track: Good The automatic start button became stuck in race 9 with the boxes failing to open. The Club Manager advised the Stewards that she would have the equipment throroughly checked prior to racing on Friday night.

Judicial report: The track was well presented for racing and with the exception of Race 9, the meeting was conducted on time.

Race 1 Absolutely Electrical C0 - C0 - 305 HIGH CALIBRE was very slow to begin losing four lengths but he made up ground very well to finish in 3rd place. FASA MAN drew box 8 and raced very wide on the track throughout but still won the race. ADDIS MATE shifted out going to the first corner and checked CUTS DEEP and POLAR SNOW WHITE which both lost ground. CUTS DEEP shifted in going into the bend and made contact with the rail losing ground and she finished several lengths last and was referred to the Vet for assessment and cleared of injury.
Race 2 NZRS Novice Heat 1 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 1 BLUSHING BELLE was a little slow to begin and settled back. She then shifted out going to the first turn and raced wide over extra ground on the first bend and stayed back to finish in 2nd last place. TIME FOR WHAT and PADDY BAXTER bumped together losing a little momentum as they went into the first bend.
Race 3 NZRS Novice Heat 2 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 2 TAYLA ROSE and THIRSTY KEVIN bumped and lost a little momentum going into the first bend. OPAWA NATTY and PATS ALL ROUND bumped together going into the back straight and PATS ALL ROUND lost three lengths and she stayed back to finish at the rear.
Race 4 NZRS Novice Heat 3 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 3 OPAWA PEARL went up with the box lids losing four lengths. OPAWA PEARL then made up ground to join the tailenders going into the first bend but then made firm contact with the rail and bounced off and made contact with the hind quarters of JUDY IN DISGUISE which was checked losing several lengths. OPAWA PEARL was referred to the Vet for assessment and was cleared of any injury.
Race 5 NZRS Novice Heat 4 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 4 DRACO BAXTER and TENNESSE AVE were slow to begin and they settled back and stayed there throughout the race. IDOL GIRL and HOMEBUSH NOS bumped soon after the start and a few strides further on IDOL GIRL and DRACO BAXTER also bumped and lost a little momentum.
Race 6 NZRS Novice Heat 5 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 5 CHECK THE MAIL was the slowest to begin. HOMEBUSH STING began awkwardly and shifted in, in search of the lure. CHECK THE MAIL improved up onto the heels of NUTS FOR SURE approaching the first bend and shifted in to obtain clear running. NUTS FOR SURE shifted inwards from the jump and bumped with BABY JAMES. NUTS FOR SURE then shifted out rounding the first turn forcing OPAWA ANNE and DARBY LANE wider over extra ground. Racing around the first bend, it appeared that DARBY LANE may have shifted in and attempt to mar the running of NUTS FOR SURE however this could not be confirmed due to the lack of video coverage. Stewards will monitor DARBY LANE in its future racing starts.
Race 7 NZRS Novice Heat 6 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 6 ALAMEIN GUS and OPAWA CASSIDY were the slowest to begin. HUNTED ran wide over the early stages of the race which forced OPAWA CASSIDY over extra ground. OPAWA CASSIDY settled at the rear of the field but made up good ground in the home straight to finish in 5th place. ALAMEIN GUS made the first bend awkwardy and lost ground.
Race 8 NZRS Novice Heat 7 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 7 TEPIRITA TUITEKA was crowded shortly after the start and lost ground when WHAT I LIKE shifted out. OPAWA LEANNE and WHAT I LIKE raced wide rounding the first bend. OPAWA LEANNE made its run wide rounding the final bend, covering extra ground. OPAWA LEANNE ran home well to finishin 3rd place.
Race 9 NZRS Novice Heat 8 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 8 The start of this race was delayed four and a half minutes due to the automatic start button becoming stuck and the boxes failing to open. All runners were removed from the boxes and after undergoing Veterinary Examination's, were all cleared to start. The boxes were re-tested prior to the start of this race and were found to be functioning as normal. MR.DARCI and VERSATILE RICHIE both jumped away awkwardly, with VERSATILE RICHIE losing ground and settling towards the rear of the field. BLUE AND CURLY and SMART COOKIE came together and bumped heavilly shortly after the start. Racing into the first bend, MR.DARCI shifted out across the heels of BOTANY COMET and in doing so forced VERSATILE RITCHIE outwards into the line of SMART COOKIE which was hampered and became unbalanced briefly.
Race 10 NZRS Novice Heat 9 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 9 BUSTER BOY was crowded on jumping away between COGNAC DIAMOND and NOSE WHITE which shifted out. WHITE LEGS had to steady going into the first bend when awkwardly placed on the heels of BUSTER BOY.
Race 11 NZRS Novice Heat 10 - NZRSq - 520 Heat 10 DUTCHESS QUEEN shifted out abruptly on jumping away hampering BELLE CADEAU and SPOT ON MAGGIE which were hampered and lost ground. Racing past the post on the first occasion, DUTCHESS QUEEN had to shift in across the heels of SUE SEWS SOCKS which was shifting in across towards the rail. HOMEBUSH AWESOME which was well back, was observed to faulter on several occasions in the home straight and eventaully fell short of the finishing line, however got back to her feet and finished on the lure. HOMEBUSH AWESOME was referred to the Veterinarian and found to be suffering from cuts to the front and hind legs.
Race 12 Morrie Gibbons Signs C1 Final - C1f - 305 MONKEY QUEEN was the slowest to begin. WORKING WAIKATO shifted in on the point of the bend crowding THRILLING CLOUD for a short distance and lost ground. Also hampered was the trailing SYDENHAM SAM which improved up onto the heels of THRILLING CLOUD. MONKEY QUEEN raced wide rounding the top bend. WORKING WAIKATO shifted in entering the home straight checking THRILLING CLOUD and SYDENHAM SAM who both became unbalanced briefly and lost ground.
