Race 1 Otago First4 Maiden Stakes - C0 - 545 SECRET SARAH and SECRET VENUS made contact on jumping away. On the first SECRET NICOLE crossed and checked MANAPOURI which then ran wide. SECRET SARAH also ran wide on the first bend.
Race 2 Brian Bagley Driver Licensing Maiden Sprint - C0 - 310 REGINA HAKA and BELFAST CHUKKA were both slow to begin. Racing into the bend TILLY BAXTER shifted out abruptly severely checking BOTANY VIXEN and BELFAST CHUKKA. Trainer J McInerney was advised the stewards would be expecting the racing manners of TILLY BAXTER to improve. When asked about the improved performance of the winner HOMEBUSH HELLS the trainer J McInerney advised the dog had needed a long spell, had only started twice this season and had shown improvement after the long break.
Race 3 Speedprint Shop Sprint - C1 - 310 DONT CALL ME was slow to jump away. Shortly after the start HIT THE LIP shifted out making contact with BLACK OZARK resulting in OPAWA FLYER who was trailing to be checked. Into the bend GRANT A DOLLAR shifted out and made firm contact with the improving DONT CALL ME. GRANT A DOLLAR continued to shift outwards checking BLACK OZARK.
Race 4 www.greyhoundsaspets.org.nz - C1 - 310 NEW ORDER was slow to jump. Shortly after the start OPAWA CHARLIE checked the running of FROGGY NEWITT. HOMEBUSH GRETA shifted inwards tightening BOTANY NANA and NEW ORDER who both were checked nearing the the turn. In the run to the turn OLD OZARK shifted out and ran wide on the bend.
Race 5 Roofing Solutions Stakes - C1 - 545 WANDY CHLOE and WEARY TRAVELLER were slow to begin. BAKE BEAN BETTY shifted in on the first bend resulting in SHADOW WOLF having to shift wider on the track and in doing so forced WEARY TRAVELLER wider on the track also.
Race 6 Roofing Solutions Sprint - C2 - 310 DYNA FRIER began awkwardly losing ground. AUSSIE HAKA shifted in down the back straight checking BOTANY ANN, FANCY SPICE and HEZA SENSATION. FANCY SPICE ran wide into the bend. On the turn for home HOMEBUSH COLT had to check off heels and shift wider on the track. In the home straight FANCY SPICE who had shifted back to the rail had to check out off the heels of HOMEBUSH COLT and ran wide again. SURF QUAKE also ran very wide in the run home.
Race 7 Norwood Farm Machinery Sprint - C3 - 310 COLONELS CHOICE was slow to begin. JOHNNIE GEORGE shifted inwards just after the start making contact with BLACK TRIGGER. Into the bend COLONELS CHOICE shifted in checking JOHNNIE GEORGE who was shifted down onto BLACK TRIGGER who was severely checked. BLACK MERCEDES and JOHNNIE GEORGE collided turning into the home straight losing ground. When spoken to regarding the improved performance of MISS IRON FIST trainer J McInerney advised the stewards the combination of a better draw today and the drop back in class were the two main factors leading to the better performance today.
Race 8 Blue Bubble Dunedin Taxis Sprint - C4 - 310 OPAWA JACK, SANTA SLOY and ANOTHER DRIZZLE were all slow to begin.BOTANY ZENA was tightened for room racing into the first bend when ICEBERG RAPPER shifted in. BASILIO BALE was subjected to a veterinary check after falling heavily at the lure. Upon examination the dog was found to have a broken right foreleg and as a result was humanely euthanased.
Race 9 Green Island Barber Stakes - C2/3 - 545 After some 400m of the race the lure slowed down and the lead dogs came into contact with the lure. The lure was stopped by the lure driver. Under Rule 76.1 the race was declared a "No Race" and abandoned. The running rail and lure were checked by club staff and Stewards. There was no visible sign of damage and after checking the lure was sent round the track at race speed (600 rpm) with no problems and clearance was given for the next race.
Race 10 Dave Robbie Photographer Sprint - C5 - 310 The lure carriage stopped some 150m from the start and the race was also declared a "No Race" under Rule 76.1 and abandoned. Again there was no obvious reason for the lure failure. After due consideration the Stewards under Rule 38.3.s declared the meeting abandoned in consideration of the welfare of greyhounds where the club could not guarantee that the lure could operate safely and the races completed.
