Manawatu Raceway to Host Golden Dash

Following on from the successful Golden Chase concept the Palmerston North Greyhound Club and its President Paul Freeman have concocted a $15,000 final to be run on May 10 over the 410 meters.

Much like it’s predecessor the Golden Chase over the 457 meters which will be run next Thursday, the Golden Dash will run a final made up of the fastest race times over the 410 meters from April 6 to May 3. All dogs class one or above are eligible to race and only need to run once within the given time slot to qualify given their race time is quick enough. The major difference between the two races, is that the final of the Golden Dash will be 8 greyhounds racing as one full field as opposed to the 4 separate two dog match races the Golden Chase holds.

Nominations close on Thursday April 1st with a $200 entry fee per greyhound required. On top of the $15,000 Golden Dash Final consolations will be carded in accordance to the amount of entries   at stakes of $4,000 per race to be run on Monday May 10. Club President Paul Freeman explains that the idea outside of the final is to give trainers a chance to have their Class 1 greyhounds racing against similar opposition in terms of time and class for a over double the stakes that a regular Class One sprint race offers.

Final box draws will be made available for the final and consolation races on Tuesday May 4.
