Eerie Orange Sky During Auckland Sunday Meeting

It sure was an eerie feeling during last Sunday’s Auckland GRC’s race meeting at the Manukau Stadium with the sky distinctly glowing orange owing to smoke haze from the Australian bush fires crossing the Tasman

It was a surreal experience for the trainers/handlers, plus also the on-course patrons. The meeting started with normal clear overhead conditions, however by mid meeting the hazy orange tinge intensified to such an extent that the full set of track lights had to be switched on. Here’s a look at the orange sky phenomenon.

 
   

Sunday’s Auckland meeting started with normal overhead conditions as seen here following Medusa Who’s first race win for Marie Prangley; this was look from the podium by race 9 which was won by the Ben Craik trained Your Valentine and stayed like that until the final race which was won by the Mark and John Smith prepared Paddy’s Fast
