Spion Rose Heats Preview

It’s all about Group 1 racing at the Hatrick Raceway with heats being contested for the $46,000 Accell Therapy Spion Rose Cup over 520m. All heats are chocker full of quality greyhounds and the racing between them will intense just to secure final field position for the December 6 final.

Here’s a look at some of the leading Spion Rose Cup heat contenders, together with their respective TAB Futures and Top 3 quotes.

 

Heat 1, race 7: Geez, Sprint Falcon $12 & $3.70 was hugely impressive when delivering his slick 29.95s 520m track debut win last Friday for his conditioners Dave and Jean Fahey. Yes, he was slow into stride, but his recovery was simply amazing. Thrilling Vice $18 & $5 tried for an all the way 520m win last Friday – he was caught late. Expect another bold effort from this Karen Walsh trained chaser here. The Lisa Cole trained Bigtime Bruno $26 & $7 impressed with his recent 520m wins including his 30.07s Friday win from trap 8. He’s jumping from that trap here.

 

Avenger Bale $61 & $16 has drawn nicely in the one trap and he can feature by using his known strength here for Craig Roberts. Bigtime Shadow $81 & $21 is another Cole contender who can spice up the combos here if he uses his known sharp early pace here.

 

Heat 2, race 8:  Pinny Mack $5 & $2 easily won the recent $125,000 New Zealand Cup and he demands obvious respect for his return to this venue with his conditioner Steve Clark. Big Time Seth $18 & $5 slipped through his Monday 457m assignment in a slick 25.76s. A repeat of that effort sees him featuring here for Cole. His kennelmate Bigtime Levi $26 & $7 was massive when nailing his $12,000 Manukau 527n feature Sunday win. He can be relied on to deliver a competitive effort again.

 

Keysile $61 & $16 is a visiting chaser for Peter Ferguson who has drawn handily enough to effectively use her known early pace, while exactly to same comment can be made for the trap 1 drawn Hey Fernando $41 & $11 for Gary and Sandra Fredrickson.

 

Heat 3, race 9: The classy Dyna Dave $6 & $2.20 begins yet another quest for Group 1 glory here for Roberts. He has won $239,727 in stakes despite an elite title still eluding him. The New Zealand Cup runner up will be sighted charging home late here. Start The Show $12 & $3.70 was solid when finishing third in the New Zealand Cup. He has drawn to advance here for his mentor Ray Adcock from the one trap. Thrilling Talk $14 & $4.20 is a proven winning Group 1 chaser who will be competitive again here for Walsh. Angela Turnwald prepared Diddilee $31 & $8.50 to finish second in last year’s Spion Rose Cup final and this dual Group 1 winner commands respect here. He’s All Shine $14 & $4.20 adds the intrigue factor here for his visiting trainer Sam Lozell as he’s making his NZ race debut here. He recently trialled very nicely over 318m in 18.27s.

    

Heat 4, race 10: Emgrand Park $9 & $3 is dropping back to 520m racing here for Turnwald following his strong Addington 645m wins. He’s competitive over 520m, especially as he proven from the one trap where he races from here. Bigtime Brody $21 & $6 set up the pace, then was run down late over 520m last Friday for Cole. He can race on the pace for a long way here. Ferguson trained Robson $10 & $3.20 to win the recent Group 1 Waterloo Cup and can set up the pace for a long way in this event. Opawa Toddy $21 & $6 is a youngster who has a real bright future in front of him from the Fahey kennels. His tidy 30.32s Friday C3 520m win confirmed those thoughts. Thrilling Amigo $31 & $8.50 owns strength at the business end of his races as seen when Walsh prepared him to charge home late for his 520m third last Friday.
