Christchurch Casino New Zealand Greyhound Cup semi 1, race 1

1 Nature’s Gent $9 & $3: He adds real intrigue here after making his way into this semi via his strong 30.47s Manukau 527m NZ Cup prelude win from this trap. He has trialled on this track and he must be respected.
2 Cactus Jack $31 & $8: The scenario is very simple for this bloke. Lead out from the traps, which he can do and his known early pace will take him a long way towards booking his return for the final.
3 Opawa Jimbo $61 & $15: He slipped around the outer from trap eight and he was never headed when delivering his bold 30.26s heat win. He must adopt that same healthy racing tactic in this event.
4 Harry Fields $21 & $6: He hasn’t received the clearest of early racing passages lately. He owns sufficient known early pace to create his own racing space here.
5 Sader Nation $51 & $12: It has been a super effort by this C3 graded chaser to make it this far. He cops a real tough draw for this assignment.
6 Ride Ain’t Over $12 & $3.70: He was spectacular in the strong manner he dictated terms to his heat rivals when delivering his slick 29..95s heat wins. He demands obvious respect following that effort.
7 Penalty Bale $151 & $31: He raced in the rear group for a long way in his heat from where he plugged into the midfield to secure his place here.
8 Shreddin’ $21 & $6: He settled just in behind the pace in his heat from where he kicked on real solidly when he missed claiming second by the barest possible margin.

Reserves

10 Zipping Clyde $301 & $61: A tardy heat start saw him receiving an impeded racing passage into the first turn, from where he was pushed wide. He has missed in two Addington 520m races.

Christchurch Casino New Zealand Greyhound Cup semi 2, race 2

1 Cosmic Odette $81 & $18: She earned her place here via her Addington NZ Cup prelude placing. She’s the current NZ Oaks title holder who won that event by using her slippery early pace. It is that asset that she must use here.
2 Opawa Norris $151 & $31: He was handy to the early pace when he clipped the hind paws of another runner when heading into the first turn in his heat. It was brave effort by him to recover to claim his place here.
3 Allen Hadrian $101 & $22: He got himself handy to the pace when rounding the first turn from where he gamely chased after the pace making winner for his bold three quarter length heat second.
4 Panel Beater $151 & $31: He was tangled up in some jostling when heading into the first turn in what was his track debut outing in his heat. Expect improvement from him following his first race day outing around here.
5 Avenger Bale $4 & $1.75: He dug in real deep when he chased the pacemaker from where he took over on the home turn to secure his 30.16s heat win. His real smart 29.82s best winning 520m time demands respect.
6 Mazu $51 & $12: He was denied early racing room then he copped a check when rounding the first turn in his heat. He prefers racing from the inside traps, therefore this trap isn’t ideal.
7 Shantui $12 & $3.70: He was solid when he boldly chased after the freewheeling pace making heat winner. He won’t mind drawing out here and he holds sound advancement claims owing to that.
8 Epic Dream $61 & $15: He struck early traffic problems in his heat, which saw him settling in the rear group. He gallantly kicked on from there to sneak into this round.

Reserves

Christchurch Casino New Zealand Greyhound Cup semi 3, race 3

1 Opawa Cheviot $201 & $41: He’s a staying chaser who hasn’t featured from wide recent traps. His lack of early pace is a concern for him from this trap in this line up.
2 Opawa Timo $31 & $8: He kicked on solidly to claim his heat third after having won a NZ Cup prelude 30.45s 520m win three races ago. He’s likely to enjoy racing this improved draw here.
3 Quistis Bale $51 & $23: She keeps on finding traffic problems during her 520m outings around here, therefore it was a brave effort by to book her place here. She is overdue a change of racing luck.
4 Fair Pippa $16 & $4.50: A combination of using her known early pace and her strength saw her nailing her 30.33s heat win when she outstayed a very talented chaser. She won’t flinch at any stage here.
5 Must Be Rusty $201 & $41: What a great effort by this fella just to make it this far after having experienced just 15 race day outings. He has been provided with no favours whatsoever being allocated this trap to jump from.
6 Helski Bale $201 & $41: He was gallant just to make it this far after he was impeded when racing into the first turn from where he was shuffled back in the rear group. He faces a tough task here.
7 Tom Tee $16 & $4.50: It was great to see this proven Addington 520m return to book his place here after having his prior issues. He would have derived immense benefit from that improvement can see him featuring at the business end here.
8 Allen Ablett $6 & $2.20: He gamely chased after the pace- setting Fair Pippa throughout in his heat. He never gave up when going under by three quarters of a length. This owner of a smart 29.823s best winning 520m time is presented with swooping claims.

Christchurch Casino New Zealand Greyhound Cup semi 4, race 4

2 Opawa Shackley $14 & $4.20: It was brilliant to see this multiple Group race winning chaser not only return to racing but also to see her delivering her 30.46s heat win. She has proven to be tough to get past when in the race lead and she has drawn to secure that here.
3 Hard Questions $151 & $31: He isn’t the quickest into stride as seen in his heat. That is the big concern for him with others likely to out jump him here even though he does own strength.
4 Runway Bono $31 & $8: He was denied a clear early racing passage when he was jostled on several occasion going into and rounding the first bend. Staying chaser who can make his presence felt during the run home.
5 Letron James $61 & $15: Last year’s NZ Cup second reserve pinged away smartly from this trap to set up the pace in his heat. It was only on the final turn when he was caught. He can make things interesting again here.
6 Dirk Bale $5 & $2: He was exempted from having to contest the heats thanks to his NZ Cup prelude 30.12s 520m win. He has quickly compiled a respectable race record which sees him holding solid qualifying claims here.
