Wanganui Straight Track Update

Update from the Project Team

Over the last four trial sessions, around 70 greyhounds have run over the track with exciting results, along with excited track staff and trainers.

To date, these have been mostly handslips of one or two greyhounds, with around 20 dogs going through the boxes. When the run back gate is installed, we will scale up the field size, as we are currently limited due to the lack of it.

Mondays have been set for trial days at this stage to fit the Central Districts racing pattern and the availability of track staff.
There will be two exceptions to this over the coming weeks to allow us to move the track forward, as detailed below.

Monday 27 May 2024 - trials moved to Wednesday 29 May 2024
This is to allow the testing and calibration of the timing and photo finish to be completed with dogs present to test it.

Non-Tote Day Monday 3 June 2024 has been moved to Wednesday 5 June 2024
This will be used as a test for all raceday protocols. This essentially means that this day will be treated like a normal raceday in regards to kennelling, boxing, starters orders, catching, swabs, stipes, vet - anything that normally occurs on a raceday at any course under raceday conditions.

The TAB will be present to test their ability to broadcast and check their systems.

This will be a great leap forward in understanding how the track works and we hope all parties understand that as we navigate our way through the day, there may be delays as we take the time to understand the procedures and timings of the track and streamline it.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who has trialled their dogs so far - it has helped immensely, and I think it's fair to say it has been enjoyed by both humans and canines!
