GRNZ announces new Auckland Cup Sponsor and Punter of the Year Competition

Greyhound Racing New Zealand (GRNZ) is pleased to announce that Entain New Zealand, the operators of TAB, will be the sponsor of the 2024 Auckland Cup for greyhounds.

The Group 1 $80,000 TAB Auckland Cup will be held at Manukau Stadium on Sunday 28 January, and it is the joint-second richest greyhound race in New Zealand.

“GRNZ is excited that Entain has come on board as the sponsor of one or our most prestigious races, and we are grateful for their ongoing support of the greyhound code,” said Edward Rennell, CEO GRNZ.

John Roberts, President of the Auckland Greyhound Racing Club, added, “The Board and management of the Auckland Greyhound Racing Club are delighted that this year’s Auckland Cup will be known as the TAB Auckland Cup.

“We welcome them as a business partner for this time-honoured event and look forward to working alongside them to ensure a quality day of greyhound racing.”

In addition, TAB will be the naming rights sponsor of an on-course betting competition on the day, which will be known as the TAB Greyhound Punter of the Year. First prize will be $5,000, along with a $1,000 Bonus Bet.

Cameron Rodger, Managing Director – New Zealand, Entain Australia and New Zealand, said Entain and the TAB brand were excited to be associated with such an iconic race in the greyhound racing calendar.

“Some of the great dogs and trainers in New Zealand history appear on the honour roll for the Auckland Cup, so it’s nice to be able to add another chapter to the history of the race.

“We are thrilled to be getting behind the TAB Greyhound Punter of the Year competition as part of this sponsorship and look forward to seeing some of our customers duke it out for year-long bragging rights.”
