Judicial report: Weather: Rain Race 8. The scratching of Sudoku Solver (G.Calverley) from this race and subsequent information received by the Stewards from the AGRC Raceday Secretary, Trainer and Syndicate Manager resulted in an Inquiry being conducted into the reason for the scratching from this Restricted Age Stakes / Club Feature Race.
Stewards considered all information presented to them and in particular Mr Calverley's opinion and that of the Syndicate Manager that Sudoku Solver had been wrongly withdrawn by the Club from Race 10 on 04.08.06 as a result of being required to start in Race 8 (R/A Feature) which Mr Calverley then scratched it from on 05.08.06 on the basis of alleged incorrect nomination acceptance / selection / Club withdrawal / required to start in the 'R/A Feature' sequence / procedure.
Rule 63.8 states - Where a Greyhound is a reserve for more than one Race (which Sudoku Solver was) and a withdrawal occurs in more than one Race, the Greyhound shall be placed in the Race with the first withdrawal subject to Rule 63.9 of this Rule.
Rule 63.9 states - A Greyhound listed as a Reserve Greyhound for a Group, Feature or Special Race, may also be included in another Race on the same programme. If the Greyhound is required to compete in the Group, Feature or Special Race, for which it is a Reserve Greyhound, it shall be withdrawn from the other Race.
The AGRC Raceday Secretary and GRNZ Selector confirmed that in their opinion this is what transpired in relation to Sudoku Solver being withdrawn from Race 10 and required to start in Race 8.
Stewards also requested under Rule 38.3 (h) that Mr Calverley satisfy them that the scratching of Sudoku Solver from Race 8 is or should not be subject to any penalty under the rules.
Decision:
Having considered all relevant information, it is the decision of the Stewards that the GRNZ Selector and AGRC acted in accordance with the applicable Club's Field Selection Criteria and above mentioned Rules and therefore Sudoku Solver shall be stood down from racing for a period of 28 days under Rule 64.14. The Stewards then advised Mr Calverley that they would be adjourning this Inquiry and reserved the right to consider laying a charge against him under Rule 64.2 and in accordance with Rule 92.

Race 1 SWIFT APPEAL DASH - C1/2 - 318 Thrilling Pirate ran inwards at the start and checked Nadal which showed little improvement thereafter finishing 7th. Entering the first turn King Calibre moved outwards from the rail causing tightening and severe checks to Marble Nugget, Dyna Sandra and to a lesser extent Jimmitom.
Race 2 FREDDY MAGIC STAKES - HEAT 1 - C0q - 527 Heat 1 Owney Joe Tarr and Hoksilato were slow to begin. American Bound began awkwardly. Lady Dot and Owney Joe Tarr came together after 60 mtrs with both being checked. On the first turn general movement inwards and outwards at the rear of the field resulted in severe checks to Lady Dot, Miss Summer Rose and to a lesser extent Hoksilato. Shortly after American Bound which was racing behind these runners ran into Lady Dot and Miss Summer Rose causing Lady Dot to fall. A post race veterinary examination of this runner detected no injury. Blade Slayer (T.McGillivray).Lameness in front left wrist. No Vet certificate supplied. Race 3 YENNORA RACING KENNELS SPRINT - C3 - 318 Lord Maximus was observed and reported to be difficult to box and will undergo further assessment at it's next race start. Glenmire was the slowest to begin and then had it's heels clipped from behind by Lord Maximus on the first turn. Danny Hand (N.P.Green). Dropped off-hind muscle. No Vet certificate supplied. Race 4 SMOKIN' PRINCE STAKES - HEAT 2 - C0q - 527 Heat 1 Indigo, Token Enforcer, Patricia Sherry and Dreams Are Free were the slowest to begin. Token Enforcer and Patricia Sherry came together for a stride entering the first turn with Patricia Sherry being checked. Handsome Pierre ran wide around the first bend and remained wide thereafter finishing 5th. Dreams Are Free raced at the rear, showed no improvement and finished last. Thrilling Fish moved outwards in the home straight and hampered Token Enforcer for several strides. Thrilling Turbo (A.Udy). Ex Wellington GRC on 02.08.06. Thrilling Eadie (K.Walsh). Muscle sprain left hind sartorious muscle. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 64.12. 10 days to and including 14.08.06.
Race 5 CAROL'S TABS' SPRINT FINAL - C5f - 318 Loaded Gun, Don Paulie and Charlston Kid were the slowest to begin. Don Paulie and Loaded Gun came together for a stride at the start. Stooge, Delta Belle and Slice Of Moon came together after 15 mtrs. Charlston Kid was denied clear racing room on the bend and then came together with Delta Belle for a stride on the home turn. Race 6 BIG SAM JUNIOR STAKES - C3/4 - 527 Ash's Assassin, Killer Touch and Richfield Reason were the slowest to begin. Holah A Hypo and Ash's Assassin came together on the first turn with Holah A Hypo being checked slightly. Nearing the back straight Willandra Bale when racing in the trail position clipped the hind quarters of the leader Music Lesson, then changed ground outwards and into the path of Mo'em Down resulting in both Willandra Bale and Mo'em Down being severely checked. Leaving the back straight Mo'em Down and Holah A Hypo came together resulting in both being checked and losing ground. Ash's Assassin was denied clear racing room on the final bend and home turn.
Race 7 WATERLOO CUP FINAL - C5f - 527 Warnie and Winsome Gem were the slowest to begin. Cawbourne Baron was tightened and checked slightly between runners on the first bend. 30 mtrs from the finish and when in the rear group Winsome Gem was tightened and checked slightly between runners. Cawbourne Patch (D.Schofield). Right fore interdigital sprain and split webbing. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 64.13. 10 days to and including 14.08.06. Bucks Reward (D.Schofield). Scratched after heat and prior to box draw for final. Torn right gracilus muscle. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 64.13. 28 days to and including 28.08.06.
Race 8 DENIS SCHOFIELD TRIBUTE - R/A - 527 San Shin and Tempest Lass came together for a stride at the start. San Shin ran wide on the first turn and carted Tempest Lass and Bullet Blue with it. Thrilling Tiger (K.Walsh). Sprained right carpus. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 64.12. 10 days to and including 14.08.06. Thrilling Fury (N.Udy). Torn right longhead tricep muscle. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 64.12. 10 days to and including 14.08.06. Cawbourne Baron (D.Schofield). Gained start in Race 7. Sudoku Solver (G.Calverley). Race 9 OVERTIME DASH - C4 - 318 Nitro Lad was the slowest to begin. Full Of Flare was denied racing room entering the first turn. Origin Teddy moved outwards on the bend hampering Nitro Lad and checking Full Of Flare.
Race 10 PUTT AROUND THE ROCKS STAKES - C1/2 - 527 Maximum, Bet She Can and Call Me Loyal were the slowest to begin. Entering the first turn Awesome Hit moved off the rail checking Thrilling Red which in turn severely checked Bet She Can and Call Me Loyal. Maximum took evasive action from this incident by running very wide. Royal Tap (P.B.Freeman). Tendon pain both front wrists. No Vet certificate supplied.
