Judicial report: Weather: Fine and Sunny. An inquiry was opened and adjourned into the ownership of WORLD PRIORITY, a starter in Race 5 The Commercial Plumbing Stakes. That inquiry was adjourned pending further inquiries with the NZGRA office.
A charge against Owner/Trainer SC Mann opened at the Auckland GRC meeting on 20 July 2004 under Rule 134 (10) (c) was reconvened and after hearing from the various parties the matter was adjourned for a full hearing on Tuesday 3 August 2004.

Race 1 TINT-A-CAR DASH - C2 - 318 All clear. DIZZY SPELL (B&L Craik) left calf strain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 2 August 2004.
Race 2 MEADOWSET GRAPHICS STAKES - C1 - 527 Into the first bend HE'S HYPO and PHILIP BALE came together for a number of strides. Soon afterwards JUDYANNE BALE and PHILIP BALE came together, with PHILIP BALE losing ground never improving in the running, finishing last. HE'S HYPO who settled mid field, ran on strongly in the straight to win, with JUDYANNE BALE finishing a distant fourth. In the home straight HE'S HYPO was observed to turn for two strides without losing momentum. Trainer K Walsh was shown the race film and advised to improve the dogs racing manners. DARK SENSATION (K Walsh) torn tricep muscle. Rule 257. 30 days up to and including 22 August 2004.
Race 3 JIMBO'S PETFOOD STAKES - C2 - 527 CHEAP WINE who drew the inside box, drove to the lead into the first corner, running away to win easily. Soon after the jump FLASH MISTRESS ran outwards, tightening KAISER IZMIR and HOMEBUSH RED on her outer. The favourite TRUANT who drew the outside box was caught wide around the first corner and into the back straight settling last, finishing near the rear with the other three dogs. WILD GUNNADOO (D Van Meeuwen) torn left gracilus muscle. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 1 August 2004.
Race 4 ROYAL WOLF CONTAINERS DASH - C3 - 318 CHARMED MAHOGANY and STORM EDITION was slow to jump from the boxes, settling well back. CHARMED MAHOGANY ran on for fourth with STORM EDITION finishing near the rear. At the end of the back straight DUDLEY DERSLEY was tightened when racing mid field, losing a number of lengths finishing seventh.
Race 5 COMMERCIAL PLUMBING STAKES - C3 - 527 Into the first bend RIALTO REASON, TULONGA LOADER, MELISSA BALE and WORLD PRIORITY were checked as a result of general tightening. Soon after this incident CAMPESE BALE and CORUBA STORM came together losing momentum. The favourite ROMBERG REASON drove to the lead in the back straight, running away to win impressively, with kennel mate RIALTO REASON recovering from the earlier check to finish strongly in the straight for fourth. The other dogs involved in the earlier incident never recovered finishing at the rear of the field.
Race 6 STREET ICE CREAM DASH - C4 - 318 Into the first bend RED COUNTRY and STOCK BROKER came together for a number of strides, coming back on SUE VAN GILL. Both RED COUNTRY and STOCK BROKER improved wide into the home straight, running on strongly to fill the minor places. SUE VAN GILL never recovered finishing last. ONSLOW BALE (GN Pomeroy) broken toe P1 left fore. Rule 257. 30 days up to and including 22 August 2004. HIGH FEVER (P&B Conner) Rule 254. No penalty.
Race 7 RADIO PACIFIC DISTANCE - C1/2d - 603 OUR MADGE drifted to last soon after the jump, finishing at the rear of the field with GOLD JED who ran wide around the bend, losing ground. HYPO ASSASSIN (K Walsh) dislocated tail. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 20 days up to and including 12 August 2004.
Race 8 COCA COLA STAKES - C4/5 - 527 The favourite SWIFT APPEAL drove to the lead into the first corner from his outside draw, tightening SOME JOE, THRILLING SAM, THRILLING ZACK, DR OSCAR and BINGO APPEAL on his inner. As a result of that tightening a trailing HOMEBUSH BILL and TREACHEROUS came together in an endeavour to avoid the skirmish. SWIFT APPEAL kicked away to win easily with THRILLING SAM and THRILLING ZACK running on to fill the minor places. THRILLING SAM was observed to hit the rail in the skirmish and was checked following the event by the Club Veterinarian who detected no injury.
Race 9 WATERLOO CUP FINAL - C5f - 527 SPEED TWIN drove to a clear lead soon after jumping from the boxes, leading until the home straight before being run down by the second favourite RASMAH REASON who won well, with SPEED TWIN hanging on for second. Into the first corner USER FRIENDLY and SUNSET JEST came together when racing at the rear of the field, running on to finish mid field. The favourite OZZIE RHODE was slow to jump from the boxes and when endeavouring to improve into the back straight, struck the hindquarters of IDOL APPEAL both dogs losing all chance filling the last two places.
Race 10 FRIDAY FLASH DASH - C4/5 - 318 HOMEBUSH GEORGE and THELMA BALE were checked as a result of general tightening into the first corner, losing all chance finishing at the rear of the field. GILBERT BALE (AC Roberts) post race dysuria and abdominal tenderness. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 3 days up to and including 26 August 2004.
