The race was the second heat of the Auckland Cup and it was the recommendation of the Stipendiary Steward that the race be abandoned and under the provisions of Rule 305, the dogs to go forward for the final be drawn by lot. The Judicial Committee elected to attempt to have the race rerun on the night but with some Trainers not wanting to run again, the decision was made to abandon the race and TOKEN CRIME and DR ABERNATHY were drawn by lot to go forward for the final. |
