Race 1 CANTERBURY DRAUGHT SIX PACK - C5 - 520 Soon after jumping from the boxes PADDY POWER and the favourite POWER WITHIN jostled for a number of strides before again coming together into the first corner losing ground. SNOWBIRD who was trailing these two dogs checked out off the hindquarters of POWER WITHIN running wide and losing all chance finishing last. POWER WITHIN finished on for fifth with PADDY POWER finishing near the rear of the field.
Race 2 LAMB AND HAYWARD STAKES - C2 - 520 The lids did not open as the lure passed the electronic eye. The dogs were removed from the boxes, reloaded, with the event starting at 6. 42pm, two and a half minutes after the programmed race start time. In the approach to the first corner JAY GEE'S BOY and COMMANDO JEWEL were checked as a result of general tightening settling at the rear of the field. Into the back straight COMMANDO JEWEL struck the hindquarters of CLOCK STOPPER, both dogs losing momemtum. CLOCK STOPPER who was slow to jump from the boxes improved along the rail in the back straight before being tightened by OZZY JOHN in the approach to the home straight. CLOCKSTOPPER drifted out to finish last.
Race 3 PEDIGREE ADVANCE SPRINT - C3 - 295 All clear. HARE SAY(GA Cleeve) nail bed infection, left fore outside toe. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 19 November 2003.
Race 4 COASTERS TAVERN STAKES - C2 - 520 As the dogs were being loaded into the boxes for this Group 2 event, the lids activated prior to the lure commencing to move. All eight dogs ran the 295m. An effort was made to re schedule the race later in the programme, however TAB race control were unable to do so. The race was declared a no race in accordance with Rule 305(1). An enquiry established that both sets of boxes had on the morning of the race meeting been examined by the Club Electrician and the independent hydraulic engineer employed by the club. The 295m boxes had been stripped by the engineer, re assembled and tested as had the 520m boxes. JIMMY JOB (JT McInerney) torn right fore triceps muscle. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 14 days up to and including 25 November 2003. CECELIA TONY (JT McInerney) diarrhoea. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 5 days up to and including 14 November 2003.
Race 5 DAVID EMERSON CONSULTANCY SPRINT - C5 - 295 Entering the first corner DR KINGSLEY checked out off DR DELANEY'S hindquarters, coming in contact with SOVEREIGN REWARD. All three dogs settled at the rear of the field, never improving in the running.
Race 6 WILSONS SPORTS BAR (SOUTHERN TRUST) NEW ZEALAND CUP - C5f - 520 YALLAH ROSE, BLACK ALLEGRO and ROTKARA BOMBER came together soon after jumping from the boxes, losing ground and settling mid field. They never improved during the running. GEOFFREY CRAYON who settled last after jumping from the boxes, ran wide into the home straight, losing further ground.
Race 7 ISLINGTON HOTEL SPRINT - C3/4 - 295 CLASSY GUY was tightened soon after jumping from the boxes settling last. Into the first corner CATCH ME SOON clipped the hindquarters of TRENT BALE as he moved down towards the rail from his outside draw. That contact caused TRENT BALE to run wide around the first bend. Soon after this incident, an improving PILLI APPEAL ran wide forcing TOMMO'S TWO over extra ground. The favourite CATCH ME SOON received an uninterupted passage along the rail into the back straight, passing the leader HOT AGENT to run away and win the event. HOT AGENT who led for a greater part of the race was run down late by HAPPY GIGGLE and PILLI APPEAL for the minor placings. TRENT BALE, CLASSY GUY and TOMMO'S TWO never recovered from the earlier incidents, finishing at the rear of the field.
Race 8 CONTAINERS DIRECT STAYERS SHIELD - C2d - 732 Around the first corner NICHOLAS BALE clipped the hindquarters of OLD MONARO, coming back on a trailing MICHAEL DIAMOND. NICHOLAS BALE finished on for a distant fourth, with the other two finishing at the rear. OLD MONARO was checked by the Club Veterinarian and found to have sustained spike wounds and bruising to his right hind leg, with a stand down period of 7 days being recommended. BRANDELLE PRINCE (JA Alfeld) was a late scratching at kennelling when weighing in 1.6kgs over its last race start weight. Rule 269(3). Trainer JA Alfeld fined $100.00. OLD MONARO (GA Cleeve) spike wounds and bruising to right hind leg. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 329. 7 days up to and including 19 November 2003.
Race 9 ROCKCOTE STAKES - C3 - 520 GROOVY JEWEL was slow to jump from Box 3, settling last. Soon after the jump, ANXIOUS MOMENTS was tightened between dogs and nearly fell losing ground as a result. Around the first corner SUPER GOLD and WHISKEY PETE came together before an improving ANXIOUS MOMENTS ran outwards, checking WHISKEY PETE who drifted to a clear last. The favourite GATLIN BALE who took up a handy position in the running, kicked clear turning in to win easily. ANXIOUS MOMENTS and GROOVY JEWEL never improved during the running, finishing at the rear with WHISKEY PETE running on well with the effort telling over the concluding stages to finish a good fifth. AQUA GOOFY (JR Goode) was a late scratching when found to have a gracilus tear. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 22 November 2003.
Race 10 SUPERPETS STAKES - C3/4 - 520 Down the back straight the leader TINKER'S TOSS ran wide taking the favourite BANKSIDE BRAT wide also. That allowed a trailing TOKEN EGO to rail inside these two to win the race from BANKSIDE BRAT with TINKER'S TOSS being run down for third by TONY ROME.
Race 11 ABRAHAMS TAVERN SPRINT - C3/4 - 295 Into the first corner HEAD MOVER was tightened between QUEZON CITY and HOMEBUSH LAD losing ground. Soon afterwards HONEST BIRD struck the hindquarters of HOMEBUSH LAD who lost ground as a result. Down the back HEAD MOVER improved along the rail before striking the hindquarters of QUEZON CITY with both dogs being badly checked. They never recovered filling the last two placings. NOAH (P&B CONNER) muscle injury to right hind leg. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 21 November 2003.
