Judicial report: The latch mechanism failed on the starting boxes in Race 12 (see report on Race 12) and races were started manually for the remainder of the programme. The club undertook to check out the mechanism, clean and grease the mechanism and test prior to the next race meeting.

MURPHY MAGIC (4) - slow to jump and then severely checked. ZEPHANIAH (5) - forced inwards at jump severely checking runner to inside and losing ground. AFRICAN VIOLET (6) - severely checked at the jump losing ground. WHITE NOT WONG (7) - ran sharply inwards at the jump checking runners to inside. HOMEBUSH PANSY (9/2) - shifted outwards at jump checking runner to outside and then tightened shortly afterwards losing momentum.
Race 2	ADDED ENERGY DASH - C1 - 390	THESEUS (1) - shifted outwards in run to the turn bumping and checking runner to outside. ROYAL ACTION (2) - bounded at the jump losing momentum. Tightened into the turn losing momentum. OPAWA OPAL (4) - heels clipped shortly after the jump becoming unbalanced and losing ground. RHINEGOLDE (5) - checked at the jump. Tightened between runners into the turn losing ground. NIPPA-A-SPOT (6) - shifted inwards at jump checking runner to inside and clipping heels of another runner. HOMEBUSH PATRIOT (7) - bumped and checked in run to the turn. Checked on the turn. CROTTY (8) - slow to jump. Shifted outwards on turn checking runner to outside.
Race 3	EVOQUE CAFE @ REMARKABLES - C0 - 457	PATTY BOY (2) - checked into turn. JUNK MAIL (5) - slow to jump losing ground early. Shifted outwards into turn checking trailing runner. DEFINITELY MAYBE (7) - checked into the turn. HOMEBUSH IVANA (8) - shifted inwards into turn tightening trailing runner. Trainer JTMcInerney was spoken to advisedly regarding the time taken to load his charge into the starting boxes.
Race 4	www.southlandgreyhounds.co.nz - C2 - 457	ESTER ACTION (S&B.Evans) was a late scratching at kenneling when found to be in season. LUCIASTAR (2) - jumped awkwardly losing momentum and then tightened in run to the turn. AVALANCH CITY (4) - shifted inwards in run to the turn tightening trailing runner.
Race 5	MR WHIPPY SOUTHLAND - C3/4 - 390	DEFINER (R.Breen) was a late scratching at kenneling when found to be in season. HOMEBUSH SLOAN (J.McInerney) was a late scratching at kenneling when found with an infected left elbow. No racing incidents to report.
Race 6	BLUFF STAKES - C1 - 457	OPAWA ALEX (3) - shifted outwards in run to the turn checking runner to outside. Ran wide in straight. IDOL JAZZ (6) - checked in run to the turn.
Race 7	CONGRATULATIONS DIBA - C1 - 457	OPAWA VAL (2) - pushed outwards into turn checking runner to outside. CHARLIE RUNKEL (4) - checked into turn, GHOST (8) - jumped awkwardly losing momentum. OPAWA FAITH (9/3) - jumped awkwardly losing ground early.
Race 8	Oreti Beach Run - C1 - 457	LIGHT THAW (2) - tightened at jump. HOMEBUSH RAGNA (3) - checked at jump. HOMEBUSH CHERICO (4) - shifted inwards at jump checking runners to inside. MISS BLUE SKY (5) - ran outwards into turn severely checking trailing runner. TRICKY ACTION (6) - severely checked into the turn, briefly stumbling and losing all chance.
Race 9	ASCOT PARK CONSORTIUM - C5 - 390	WHEELCHAIR NORM (4) - tightened into turn between runners losing momentum. HOMEBUSH BANKER (5) - checked at the jump and briefly stumbled. PUMA PANTS (7) - shifted inwards at the jump checking runner to inside.
Race 10	ASCOT PARK HOTEL - C2 - 390	ADJUDICATOR (1) - ran outwards into the turn checking runner to outside. Then clipped heels of another runner on turn. KALONGA (2) - checked into the turn and clipped heels of another runner. Ran outwards dictating another runner wide on track. GRAEBURN (3) - shifted outwards at jump checking runner to outside then ran wide in straight. CAWBOURNE PATTY (4) - checked into the turn, with heels clipped losing momentum. TRENDY BLAKE (5) - checked at the jump. EXPRESS GUNN (7) - crossed over into turn checking inside runners. Had heels clipped on turn losing momentum. GOLDSTAR TU PUC (8) - dictated wide on turn.
Race 11	AUTUMN DISTANCE - C2d - 630	PIANISSIMO (2) - ran outwards at jump checking runner to outside. HERITAGE WATCH (3) - tightened between runners at jump falling heavily and finishing a distant last after regaining feet. A post race veterinary check revealed no injury. GOLDSTAR JAGGER (4) - shifted inwards at jump checking runner to inside.
Race 12	INVERCARGILL STAKES - C3 - 390	The starting box lids failed to open as the lure passed and eventually opened with the lure a considerable distance in front of the field when released. Greyhounds completed the 390 metres. Acting under Rule 76.1 the Stewards declared the race a No Race with a public announcement made. Under Rule 76.6 the race was abandoned by Stewards in the interests of greyhound welfare given the field had run the entire distance. The starting boxes and trip mechanism were inspected by Stewards, with a fault found in the latch holding the lid. Under Rule 74.2 it was ordered that for the remainder of the meeting the boxes be opened manually by the Starter.
Race 13	GREYHOUNDSASPETS.ORG.NZ - C1 - 390	GOLDSTAR SCOUT (3) - checked into the turn. Bumped and checked on turn. KNOCKA FEW BACK (4) - checked into the turn. OPAWA LEAN MEAT (5) - checked as field tightened into the turn losing ground and checking trailing runner. CHIPPY JORDY (7) - shifted inwards on turn bumping and checking runner to inside. JINJA RULES (8) - bounded at the jump losing momentum.
Race 14	SOUTHLAND & OTAGO PHOTO FINISH - C1 - 390	HOMEBUSH CLINT (1) - checked on the turn. SLICK ACTION (3) - slow to jump then checked losing ground early. Held up for room into the turn then ran outwards checking runners to outside. CAWBOURNE MURF (4) - shifted inwards at jump tightening runner to inside. Checked into the turn and held up trailing runner then further heavily checked on turn becoming unbalanced and losing all chance. NIPPA EEL (5) - bumped and checked in run to the turn losing ground. Tightened and clipped heels into turn losing momentum. TOKEN ACE (6) - shifted inwards into turn checking runner to inside. Heels clipped on turn losing momentum then further checked on turn. FEAR MARINA (8) - crossed over sharply in run to the turn heavily bumping and checking another runner.
Race 15	RACING AGAIN 7th MAY - C1 - 390	WONG ANSWER (McCook/Jopson) was a late scratching at kenneling when found to be dehydrated and lethargic. ZIPPING PIPER (2) - tightened into the turn losing ground. CAWBOURNE SANDY (4) - checked at jump. Ran inwards into turn tightening trailing runner. FLAT PACK (5) - dictated inwards from jump checking runner to inside. STORMY SUNDAY (6) - ran inwards from jump dictating another runner inwards.
