Racing Integrity Board/Racing Integrity Unit

Stipendiary Steward and Trainee Stipendiary Steward.

Location: the roles can be based in the Auckland/Waikato, Central Districts or Canterbury areas.

The Racing Industry Act 2020 provides for the establishment of the Racing Integrity Board (RIB) as an independent Statutory Body responsible to promote and ensure compliance with, high standards of animal welfare, integrity and professionalism in the Racing Industry.

The RIB is due to commence operations on 1 July 2021 and will take over the functions and responsibilities of the Racing Integrity Unit (RIU) and Judicial Control Authority (JCA).

Included in the RIU responsibilities the RIB will take over is investigating and prosecuting breaches of the Rules of Racing and brings together Stipendiary Steward and Racecourse Investigator functions for the three codes – harness, thoroughbred and greyhound.

Due to retirements and staffing requirements opportunities will exist within the RIB for Stipendiary Stewards and Trainee Stipendiary Stewards.

The roles include but are not limited to carrying out Stipendiary Steward duties at race meetings and trials, venue and track inspections, establishing effective relationships with industry participants, visiting stables and kennels and involvement in mentoring and training apprentices and junior drivers.

You will need to be prepared to work as a Stipendiary Steward across all three codes. Work involves a five day roster with a requirement to work outside normal office hours. A knowledge and competence in computer technology is required.

a passion for the racing industry and a willingness to embrace change.
