New $15,000 Sprint Finals in April and May

New $15,000 Sprint Finals in April and May

$15,000 Angus Wright - Thu 15 April - Noms close this Thu 1 April (Heats 8 April)
$15,000 Golden Dash - Mon 10 May - Noms close this Thu 1 April

GRNZ together with the Waikato and Palmerston North Greyhound Clubs would like to announce two new $15,000 sprint finals coming up in April and May.

With the Galaxy, Dash for Cash and Railway sprints now run and won for the year, sprint trainers would normally have no more five-figure prizes left to chase this season, but that has all changed.

The Group 2 Angus Wright has reverted to a 375m race and the $15,000 Final will be run on Derby night at Cambridge on Thursday April 15.  Heats will be run on Thursday 8 April.

This now sees Derby night hosting four Group races; the $45k Derby, the Angus Wright along with the Lois Henley Memorial and Teressa McDonald Distance.  And of course Premier stakes across the rest of the card.

With Addington out of action, South Island kennels should find the Waikato prizemoney very tempting.

Another temptation to South Island kennels in April will be heats of the new 410m Golden Dash which will have its $15,000 Final on Monday 10 May.

The Golden Dash follows most of the qualification process of the Golden Chase, with dogs qualifying for the $15,000 Final and $4,000 (min) consolations by recording the fastest times over 410m at Palmerston North across the five meetings between Tuesday 6 April and Monday 3 May.  All dogs Class 1 or above are eligible to nominate and must race at least once over 410m at Palmerston North within the qualifying period in order to qualify.

Key differences from the Golden Chase are qualifying times can only be set in races not solo trials and the Final will be a regular eight dog race, like the consolations.

Nominations close with the Palmerston North club on Thursday April 1st with a $200 entry fee per greyhound required.

With the fastest dogs qualifying for the Final, the other qualified dogs will get to race against dogs of equal ability in the consolations as they will be racing dogs that put up similar qualifying times on the track.
