The Perfect Staying Result

As commentator Mark Rosanowski said in his post-race wrap following Friday’s running of the $16,000 Wanganui Stayers, “It was the perfect result for Perfect Result and Ray Adcock and Ray Amer.” It was a comprehensive win by the stayer who, after taking over the race lead when rounding the first turn, was never seriously challenged afterwards in the Group 2 755m staying event.

Perfect Result was in cruise control throughout the event and he held a comfortable 4.5 length margin over his rivals, clocking 45.33s for his assignment. Emerging from an early midfield position was the Angela Turnwald prepared Opawa June and she gamely stuck to her task when claiming the runner up prize. It an encouraging pair of 755m efforts this girl produced over the series.

Finishing stoutly along the rail a further two lengths behind was Cawbourne Taylor for her conditioner Matt Roberts. The Hatrick Group 1 Wanganui Distance winner outstayed the promising young Bill Hodgson trained stayer Race Me Home when taking away the third placing from her by a neck.

“It is very satisfying to train Group race winning stayers, especially New Zealand bred stayers – that’s the ultimate result,” confirmed Adcock about the hot $1.20 race favourite following the event. The result was also a belated perfect 85th birthday present for the GRNZ Hall of Fame trainer.

Perfect Result is a member of the nicely bred February 2016 whelped litter between Barcia Bale and Andrea. He has now raced on 76 occasions, with 23 of them being victories. He has placed in another 22 races, with his stake earnings now sitting at a tidy $80,652.
