NZ Cup Placegetters Dominate The Spion Rose Heats

It’s a strong quartet of 520m heats from where the eight greyhounds required to contest next Friday’s final for the $46,000 The Spion Rose at the Hatrick Raceway will emerge. It will require mistake-free racing by the heat contentions just to make it through to the Group 1 decider.

Dominating the TAB markets for this event are five finalists who contested the recently completed $125,000 Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup. NZ Cup winner Bago Bye Bye is making his Hatrick race debut, while the Cup runner up Dyna Dave, along with the locally prepared third placed Blazin’ Carter take their places in the heats. Cup finalists Pinny Mack and Quistis Bale will be joining them.

2 Cawbourne Krusty $26 & $7: She’s a Group 1 wining 520m chaser around this circuit who is dropping back to 520m racing after her recent 660m and 645m staying assignments. She’ll be ready for a competitive heat effort.

3 Bago Bye Bye $4 & $1.70: This bloke absolutely dominated the recent NZ Cup series capped off by his potent victory in the rich final. He’s on track debut here which isn’t expected to faze him whatsoever.

4 Idol Dude $61 & $16: He copped a check on Monday when contesting a C3/4 410m sprint. He was returning following on his bold NZ Cup night feature 520m race second placing.

5 Bigtime Lily $51 & $13: She was never in contention after jumping from trap eight back here last Friday over 520m. She was returning home after here sound third in a 520m feature support race on NZ Cup night.

6 Ask King Jeff $18 & $5: He dashed home late to nail his Monday 26.89s 457m C4/5 win on what was a slushy track. He is a proven 520m chaser around this circuit and he holds sound advancement claims here.

7 Bigtime Forest $81 & $21: He was shuffled back to the rear group shortly after jumping from this 520m trap last Friday. He has no option but to press forward at trap rise here.

8 Avenger Bale $14 & $4: Mr Versatile is making his return to this venue after his strong Addington NZ Cup night 732m staying win two races ago. He was the stylish winner of the Amazing Chase Consolation 520m (30.08s) event in July here.

Race 8, heat 2 – The Spion Rose (Group 1)
1 Kiwi Gal $81 & $21: She struck early traffic problems from this trap in Sunday’s $12,000 NZRS 527m final. She does owns early pace and she is very capable of leading this field all the way here.

2 Barge Bale $51 & $13: He found himself jammed up in midfield traffic during his Addington 520m outing last week. He produced a solid 520m third there in his prior race which came in the NZ Cup consolation race.

3 Dyna Dave $5 & $1.90: The NZ Cup runner up is having his first start following his powerful finish to claim his bold placing. He owns a sub 30 second best winning 520m time at this venue.

4 Blazin’ Aubrey $14 & $4: She stylishly won the NZ Cup Consolation event (30.06s) and then she returned here to endure a traffic impeded 520m outing last Friday. Expect a bold effort from her here.

5 Shallay Pallay $41 & $21: He has been mixing his recent Addington race distances. He is proven over 520m, although he must hop straight onto the early pace from the poor draw he has been allocated here.

6 Bigtime Wendle $61 & $16: This girl won’t mind drawing out here, however she has to set the initial pace to feature here as she was run down late after setting the pace in her recent Monday 457m outings.

7 Bigtime McDaddy $61 & $16: He is resuming from a spell for this event having won a 645m Aug 17 staying event two races prior to going out for his spell. He must position himself handy to the pace when entering the first turn here.

8 Waitohi $81 & $21: This girl certainly isn’t the quickest into stride, however she does own a punishing finish. We saw her produce a finish like that when she claimed her Amazing Chase Consolation 520m second placing.

Race 9, heat 3 – The Spion Rose (Group 1)
1 Quistis Bale $31 & $7.50: She was always held in the rear group during the NZ Cup final after she jumped away from trap 8. This trap can aid her qualifying claims although she must place herself onto the early pace to achieve that.

2 Jinja Might $41 & $11: He was impeded and lost all claims when going into the first turn in Sunday’s $12,000 527m NZRS final. His prior Manukau 527m was solid with the bulk of those efforts coming from inside traps.

3 Bigtime Levi $41 & $11: He is a proven Hatrick chaser who makes his return to this track after his luckless NZ Cup Consolation outing. He’s another contender who must get into a forward early position.

4 Blazin’ Carter $7.50 & $2.40: He set the initial pace in the NZ Cup final from where he gamely stuck to his task to nail his third placing. His early pace is a huge asset in a competitive field like this one.

5 Dyna Monty $18 & $5: He’s a C4 graded Canterbury chaser who cops a tough draw for his track debut outing here. He found himself tangled up in early traffic from trap 8 in last week’s Addington C4/5 event.

6 Idol Tom $31 & $7.50: This fella is a perennial Hatrick open class 520m minor place getter. He is generally sighted doing his best work at the business end of his races here. He’s always a contender for a podium position.

7 Diddilee $21 & $5.50: He is in career best form at the moment and that form has seen him securing his open class chasing stripes. He was a stylish 30.07s C4 520m winner here last Friday.

8 Trojan Hoarse $61 & $16: He’s another recent C5 graduate who endured a luckless C4/5 Friday 520m race. His advancement claims will hinge on where he is positioned when heading into the first turn here.

Race 10, heat 4 – The Spion Rose (Group 1)
1 Gray Bale $51 & $13: He has been a regular occupant of this trap lately, having delivered a 30.23s 520m win from it three races ago. He raced handy to the pace on that occasion which is exactly what he must do here.

2 Tyson’s Quest $81 & $21: He dropped back into the C4 ranks to deliver his Friday 1.6 length 520m third. He does own early pace and it is that asset that he must use from trap rise here.

3 Zou Star $81 & $21: He is a C3 assessed chaser who caught the eye when he delivered his bold on the pace Monday 457m C3/4 457m third when he resumed from an extended spell. He adds the unknown factor to this heat.

4 Bigtime Caleb $51 & $13: He didn’t receive any racing favours when he backed up over 457m on Monday, following on from his bold Friday 30.12s on the pace C4/5 520m win. He must use those same tactics in this heat.

5 Nature’s Gent $21 & $5.50: He’s a proven Group 1 performer who ran third in this final last year. He wants the rail, therefore his draw here is a worry. He does owns a turbo charged 29.68s best winning 520m time here.

6 Pinny Mack $5 & $1.90: He is resuming from his NZ Cup sixth place finish where he contested the early pace. His early pace is his best asset and this bloke is more than capable of leading this field all the way here.

7 Puzzle Tin $31 & $7.50: He’s a promising up and coming chaser who delivered a bold last start NZ Cup Consolation second placing. He is on track debut here and it’s best for him if he takes up a forward early position.

8 Bigtime Mia $61 & $16: She owns an astounding set of trap 8 stats (5 wins & 1 minor from 6 races) and those stats says treat her with respect here after her bold last start 457m second behind a more than handy chaser.
