Peptosyl Withholding Time

We have been informed that there may be some confusion over the withholding time of Peptosyl prior to racing.

Peptosyl, which can be used to control diarrhea in dogs, contains Bismuth Salicylate which was originally assumed to be insoluble and therefor not needing a witholding time. In fact, in the intestine it breaks down into Bismuth and salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is readily absorbed and is easily detected in urine.

An appropriate withholding time would be 96 hours prior to racing.
