Chief Executive - GRNZ

  • -  Strategic and operational
  • -  Superb leader with collaborative style
  • -  Variety, scope and challenge.

The New Zealand Greyhound Racing Association, also known as Greyhound Racing New Zealand (GRNZ), is the governing body for all Greyhound Racing in New Zealand. As a Code, GRNZ is an industry that truly represents the grassroots of urban and provincial New Zealand. The sport has a long and proud heritage and has grown and evolved over time to become an important and influential code within the racing industry of New Zealand.

Racing and sports betting in New Zealand is regulated under the Racing Act 2003 (the Act). Greyhound racing, as one of the three major codes, is a core stakeholder within the overall racing industry and as such, operates strictly within the regulatory framework provided through the Act.

GRNZ is now seeking applications for the key leadership role for the organisation and industry in the position of Chief Executive. This role is based in Petone and reports to the Board of GRNZ.

You will be joining a small, dynamic organisation and vibrant industry sector that has real momentum and clarity of purpose. You will be the pivotal leader of the organisation and will play the most influential role in leading the team and organisation forward, consistent with its new strategic plan and outcomes. You will ensure that New Zealand is a world leader in the welfare of racing greyhounds, whilst accepting the inherent risks of competitive sport in a breed that loves to race.

Applicants should be able to evidence:

  • -  Proven results as a Chief Executive or General Manager
  • -  Success from business and financial management
  • -  A connection to Racing, ideally Greyhound Racing
  • -  Reporting to a Governance Board, or at least a strong understanding of professional governance
  • -  Success through superb people management and stakeholder leadership.

An interest, understanding or background in greyhound racing is essential, particularly in a leadership capacity. An understanding of the New Zealand racing environment and legislative framework, how sporting bodies or federate membership organisations work, and an understanding of the relationship between member clubs, other stakeholders and a governing body, such as GRNZ, would be a distinct advantage.
