Amazing Chase Leaderboards Take Shape

Qualifying for the Frompro Amazing Chase continues in the final weeks leading up to the 30 July event. Leaderboards at the three qualifying tracks are taking shape in preparation for the big event that will be held at Auckland’s Manukau Sports Bowl. A radical change to the Hatrick qualifying positions occurred at the day meeting in Wanganui on Friday. The first qualifying time was recorded Friday at the big ticket Addington meeting, and there were additional changes to the Manukau leaderboard on Sunday.

Wanganui - Hatrick Raceway

Friday saw a rare afternoon meeting held in Wanganui and with warmer temperatures forecasted, trainer Matt Roberts decided to solo trial Cawbourne Trixy ($16 – TAB Futures, option 986) for her Amazing Chase qualifying time. Cawbourne Trixy flew through her 520m assignment in a swift 29.77s and in doing so landed the current number one position on the Hatrick Raceway leaderboard.

Earlier in the afternoon, trainer Lisa Cole watched her promising chaser, Bigtime Paddy ($21) scamper through his 520m task in a slippery 29.79s, taking the title for his C1/2 520 event.

Christchurch - Addington Raceway

The Amazing Chase qualifying process for Christchurch’s Addington Raceway began Friday evening in the Barron’s Supplies South Island Champs race. Tom Tee ($5) jumped straight to the top of the Addington table with his powerful 30.19s run, securing victory for trainer Ray Adcock.

The only other qualifying time posted was by the Dave and Jean Fahey trained Opawa Shackley ($12) who was officially timed at 31.02s which came during her traffic impeded run in the South Island Champs.

Auckland - Manukau Raceway

Westworld ($12) strongly won the Manukau open class 527m event on Sunday afternoon for Ben Craik and his 30.55s winning time advanced him up into second place on the Manukau times. In doing so he nudged the Denis Schofield trained Lochinvar Brogue ($8) who has recorded a 30.59s clock, back to third, although still sitting in a final field position.

Riding Shotgun ($3.50) sits on top at the northern headquarters with his smart 30.22s run for Karen Walsh.

This week

Wanganui - Hatrick Raceway

Friday evening at the Hatrick Raceway will have Lisa Cole racing eight of her nine Amazing Chase nominated greyhounds. Five of these will line up in the race nine C4/5 520m event wherein Cawbourne Trixy is the first reserve. Cole has Bigtime Vanessa ($101) (race three), Bigtime Welldone ($101) (race six) and Bigtime Paddy (race 10) contesting for other 520m events.

Christchurch - Addington Raceway

The week ahead will also see the Addington qualifying action really warming up with the exciting Adcock prepared Harry Fields ($11) jumping from trap one in the fourth. Harry Fields’ kennelmate, the potent stayer Ring The Bell, will contest this 520m race wearing the black racing vest.

Tom Tee gets the opportunity to improve his recorded time in race eight and hounds Translater ($31) (Dave and Jean Fahey), and Ketchikan Blue ($126) (Jason Dunn), will get their first crack at posting qualifying times in race nine. Ketchikan Blue also won Tuesday’s Ascot Park 427m event.

Auckland - Manukau Raceway

At the Manukau Stadium on Sunday afternoon Westworld and Lochinvar Brogue will look to improve their recorded times in the C5 527m event, while Yap’s Me Mum ($101) will strive to improve her time in race 12 C3 527m. She will be joined in the race by kennelmate Zipping Silva ($21), who will be making his New Zealand race debut from the Denis Schofield kennels.
