Ray Adcock first 'human' Hall of Fame inductee

GRNZ Hall of Fame

The New Zealand Greyhound Racing Association Hall of Fame was introduced in 2008 (its centenary year) to formally celebrate and acknowledge the champions of the sport of Greyhound Racing in New Zealand. The inaugural inductees were Misty Anna and Cecilia Lloyd. The Hall of Fame 2010 saw the first person inducted into the Hall of Fame with champion trainer Ray Adcock receiving the honour. All Hall of Fame greyhounds and members are displayed at the GRNZ head office in Petone. Each Hall of Fame greyhound and member is presented with a specially-made collar to commemorate their induction.

Thayne Green

Thayne Green was instrumental in and oversaw the introduction of full TAB betting for the greyhound code, which occurred in 1981. Thayne served terms on the Boards of AGRC, GRNZ, TAB, NZRIB and NZRB. He has owned and trained Group 1 winners, including three Silver Collar winners. The first of the Silver Collar winners came in 1979 when Irene Close trained Go Your Halves to victory at the Mt Smart Stadium. He trained Steiny Blue (1988) and Brydie Girl (1989) to their Silver Collar wins. Green continues to maintain a steady stream of winners from his Airfield Road property in Takanini.

Samuel Fletcher

Sam was a life member of both Greyhound Racing New Zealand and the Auckland Greyhound Club. His involvement in greyhound racing turned into a lifetime commitment which shaped the future of greyhound racing in this country to the level that we all enjoy today.  Sam led the successful campaign for totalizator betting on the greyhound code, finally introduced in 1977.  He was also key in sourcing the Auckland club's current racing venue, Manukau Stadium.  Sam is the author of the book "From Drag Hare Paddock to Bramich Hare Stadium" a comprehensive history of NZ greyhound racing dating back to the earlier coursing days from 1887 through to 2000.  (Sam is pictured top right).

Nancy Cobain

Champion trainer and administrator, Nancy Cobain passed away on May 7 2006.  Over a five decade period Nancy trained the winners of 5 Duke of Edinburgh Silver Collars while she was also an excellent administrator having been involved in local club and national association level.
